Scotia on the birthday week

Good morning to the Clan and hope you are all well.

Mrs S asked me a couple of weeks ago what do you fancy for a birthday treat? I am not at liberty to post my immediate response on the site but after a bit thought the ARC, Breeders Cup and Melbourne Cup came to mind.

These thoughts were also dispelled by the limitation that it had to be local not involve horses or a computer so we find ourselves having a nice weekend break to Umhlanga

Now October 15th might be a big day for some but the 16th is a date for the diary.

Frankel favourite for next years Classics

Racing from Newmarket where we have the Cesarewitch, Champions Stakes and the "Dewhurst" this should be a race to remember Frankel, Dream Ahead and Saamidd all meeting before next years 2,000 gns.

It gives me goosebumps, I remember as a 20yr old sitting in the bookies when Mill Reef and My Swallow were running in the 2,000 gns and Brigadier Gerard came and nailed them both. I just have a feeling that the same might happen with Saamidd coming to catch the big two, but I wont hold my breath if Frankel turns out to be the "real deal".

Mill Reef

Incidentally went for my favourite horse Mill Reef in these days and I never looked back punting him in all his other races.

If you consider next years 2000 gns and Derby, Frankel deserves to top the boards and if you also give a thought that the 5 time winner Wootton Bassett is 20/1 for the gns, what type of crop do we potentially have? Plus if Frankel wins well we could have the first money on winner of the guineas since ? (help me on this one guys) I just remember some great winners, Sea the Stars, Dancing Brave, Nijinsky and Sir Ivor spring to mind.

1971 2000gns

The Melbourne Cup has seen So You Think coming in for more support after its last impressive win and is now as short as 5/1 and the Cox Plate looks at its mercy 8/10 tops.

As far as the Breeders Cup meeting Midday has gone evens for the Fillies and Mares race on the Friday 5th Nov, superstar Goldikova 15/10 for the Mile, the Classic where Zenyatta plans to make it 20 from 20 at 4/1 and the latest news is that Derby/Arc winner Workforce might just win the BC Turf at 7/2, now that would be some treble!

The big news for xmas is that Kauto Stars half brother Kauto Stone could be joining him at Kempton and sure the big firms will be pricing up on a "Kauto" double to give the punters some festive cheer.

Paul Hanagan

As far as the UK jockey championship it looks in the bag for that managan Hanagan with Hughes picking up a six day ban, Paul also has a one day ban but with 9 behind, little chance for Richard

On the local front was great to see Pierre Jourdan get back to winning ways and look forward to some great racing at the Big T over the next couple of months

International Jockey Challenge

Summer Cup Full house or flop?

I see we have a new post in connection with the movie about Secretariat............Secretariat

Have been trying to buy a copy at the robots I gather they are in black in white plus in Chinese and copied by a hand held video camera, so maybe the popcorn and Sterkinekor is the better option.

So the weekend might turn out OK, movies on the Friday, find a bookies on the Sat to watch the Dewhurst (as I have yet to find a hotel with Tellytrack) and Clairwood on the Sunday, lets be fair it is "my" birthday

Good punting and may your God be with you.

Wonderful news cant wait plus:

PAUL HANAGAN's championship claims received a setback on Monday morning when Newcastle abandoned its scheduled fixture on Tuesday.

Hanagan, who leads rival Richard Hughes by nine winners in the title race, had a full book of eight mounts at Newcastle, but must now endure an unwanted day off after the saturated racecourse ruled out racing. Tuesday's only other Flat fixture is at Leicester.

This Dewhurst is going to give me sleepless nights

I am a money on punter and Frankel is the greatest thing since sliced bread......................they are taking the 6/10

Saamidd is my horse to follow at 6/1

I must take a BIG place at better than evens? plus a small win or maybe an ante post for gns/derby...............only a few more nights :S

In addition I am being given a winner for my birthday from a trainer................another worrying thought

lol

Arc Fav taking on Workforce for revenge?

Behkabad aimed at Breeders' Cup Turf

Behkabad will head to Churchill Downs for the Breeders' Cup Turf, with Stan James making the son of Cape Cross 5-1 for the on November 6 contest.

Was sent off favourite and finished an unlucky fourth behind Workforce in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, will be running outside France for the first time in his career and left-handed for only the second.

"He came out of the Arc in good condition and is very well. We also entered Behkabad in the Japan Cup as we wanted to have all options open for him."

Behkabad has won six of his nine races - including the Grand Prix de Paris and Prix Niel - and made the frame in his three others.

Buick anticipates 'exceptional' Dewhurst

WILLIAM BUICK has admitted his excitement at the prospect of riding unbeaten Group 1 winner Dream Ahead against odds-on favourite Frankel in Saturday's Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.

In what is shaping up to be one of the best Dewhursts in recent years, the David Simcock-trained Dream Ahead will face Henry Cecil's Frankel - ante-post favourite for next year's 2,000 Guineas and Investec Derby - as well as Godolphin's Saamidd, who was supplemented for the race at a cost of £20,000 on Monday.

Buick, who has ridden Dream Ahead - a 3-1 chance for the Dewhurst - to his two Group 1 victories in the Darley Prix Morny and Shadwell Middle Park Stakes, will be aiming to seal a stunning campaign in whichhe also won his first Classic on Arctic Cosmos in the Ladbrokes St Leger.

"I think it's going to be the race of the season," Buick told At The Races on Tuesday.

"It's going to be a top-class race with Frankel, Dream Ahead and Saamidd taking each other on - it's exceptional. Obviously, what Frankel did at Ascot was - to the eye - very impressive. On Saturday we'll see who is the best."

Dream Ahead - officially rated the highest runner in the Dewhurst on 128 - blitzed his rivals by upwardsof nine lengths in the Middle Park and Buick added: "The horses behind me weren't slouches and I said afterwards he's an unbelievable horse and I've never sat on one who can do what he can."

Buick's season has gone from strength to strength since he joined John Gosden's stable at the start of the year.

He partnered Dar Re Mi to success in the Dubai Sheema Classic in March and produced one of the rides of 2010 aboard Debussy in the Arlington Million.

Buick then landed his maiden British Classic triumph when the Gosden-trained Arctic Cosmos scooted home in the St Leger last month.

"It's unbelievable," Buick said. "I'm very pleased with how things have gone. It's been a privilege to ride some great horses."
