listening to cliff miller after rain kings win it very clear that the authorities need to have a long hard look at kimberly racing...it has become the playing fields for 2 people and soon they will be racing alone...why does the lowest form of racing in south afica have PLATE RACES?they should be catering for the LOWEST FORM OF HORSES not higher division horses for fucks sakes...the highest merit rating race should be an 70 tops and maiden races shouldnt cater for horses with ratings of 82 for fucks sakes...its a fucking joke seeing the quality of horse racing out of pac milers yard in kimberly..bought at huge prices at the national sales and top sales in oz to race against horses in fucking kimberly...in bloem the racing program never had plate races ,only catering for lower horses who struggled in major centres...the races were shared between the trainers and everyone was happy ...time for phum and the ra to stand up and be counted for once

I agree with Pirates on the catering for poorer horses but the problem is,that plate races keep the punters fooled into believing they have a better chance of going short in those races ie.could poor maidens and 6 MR handicaps per meeting keep up reasonable turnovers?
I dont have the answer, but might be a risk!

I think if things carry on the way they are the Australian breeders might suspend sales to South African buyers as their stud book will start to look ridiculous with all the multiple winners racking up 8 wins in the highly competitive and world famous Flamingo Park - lol- Mr Jooste should rather sell his bad horses than race them in his colours in that place - two or three maybe but it seems like the poor guy has sent masses of runners to race in the dust bowl - it's as out of place as Ferrari owner racing against a Fiat Palio

Jooste damned if he does damned if he doesn't

Mrs O used to send horses to The Big K dunno if she still does.

Sad to say there is some real shite racing in AUS as well. Not everyday is Melbourne Cup Day.

I just preferred Bloem more competitive. Quick to get there.

Reality Vaal could quite easily supplement Kimberly meeting and close Kimberley altogether. Serves no point other than Mr Miller Charity race days. No disrepect to Mr Miller he must be a descent horseman to get so many winners. But rather let him come to the Vaal than Gauteng trainers getting to Kimberley every week.

Cost saving i imagine would be huge.

Race at the VAAL three times a week nobody goes there on mass. Monday Tuesday and Thursday
Friday PE
Wednesday stand Alone Gold Circle Meeting rotate DBN and CAPE depend on seasons.
On more Mid week Gold Circle meeting in same rotation as Wednesday. Just other province.
Keep Turfies for Saturday'
Race Saturday 1 Shared Gold Circle as before seasonal sharing unless major race day
Sunday stand alone Gold Circle meeting

And for those really bored Ngong and Borrowdale.

For me Mauritius the most exciting prospect for the future.

I dont see what's wrong with running a few plate races in Kimberley. I dont want to see casino racing all the time in Kimberley. Its good to see some nice horses there, adds some spice. If the economics are viable then so be it. Sure, there is a problem about trainer monopolies, but why should we knock down success?

Pirates, I basically agree with you(but bear in mind that Bloem. was pre MR,so even handicaps were "plate, with penalty " races)
(BTW I loved Bloem. racing,as I do Kimberly, from a pure exotics point of view,as it suits my strategy of trying to "buy" percentages of the PA )
