Maybe they don't know how to divide?
Perhaps we need to ask them to split the race instead of divide?
Even if they spit it the Russian way 80/20

Seeing as Phumelela and RA are useless and money hungry, what about the following idea.
We as owners LEASE the racecourse from them for a day (lets say the vaal) We hire all the relevant staff (starters etc) we create our own fields and we create our own stakes by selling our product for the day to anyone that wants to buy it. We have 12 races all maidens each owner pays R2k to enter horse and we work out a pot split incorporating the fees we obtain from bookies or anyone that wants to bet using our product for the day. The races should be competative as no owner wants to put in 2K if his/her horse is not ready.
If they fail to recognise our races worse case is you have a "maiden " winner running in maiden races in the future under their control.
OR
We boycott nominating horses for 1 week, only 1 week and that will rock them BIG time. If we can get 30% of owners/trainers to boycott nomms for 1 week that will bring them to the table faster than Usain Bolt running the 100m
Even if some people boycott the boycott they will be left with fields of 3/4 runners.
BUT we need to rally round for this, we need to make sure we have support from enough owners/trainers across the country. So lets start here.
WHO supports a national boycott of noms for 1 week to be specified?
and HOW many other owners do you think we can get on board for the boycott?

I hate to sound like a nay-sayer, but in my view a boycott (while a good idea) has zero chance of succeeding - all it will lead to is that the big owners like Jooste, van Niekerk etc will get even more of their runners in a race - and also there are too many smaller owners who are too ignorant or just do not care enough to take action.
Also I don't think P at present will allow anyone to lease a course, but this idea has some merit imo; all that is needed to convince P to consider it. is to show them some sort of business plan that will guarantee them a profit, in order to please their shareholders

Jack Dash, I ask the question - are you currently a race horse owner ? or are you a PUNTER ONLY ?
Let me tell you it's no fun owning a maiden & battling to get into a race that a) is the right distance for your horse, b) the right surface turf / sand ,
c) make sure if you're drawn well on the inside T track, or the vaal sand.
It's pointless running your horse over the " wrong " distance, unless you're a 2 y.o. cause you got no option., & normally no use in racing when you drawn in the sh!t house around the turn. Racing horses is an expensive hobby - yes a hobby for most of us & that is all ( you're deffinitely not guaranteed a profit in this game )
I know a whole card of maidens is not very exciting punting wise, but we have far too many maidens at present on the highveld & it's bloody expensive to keep them in their boxes at Randjiesfontein " CAUSE YOU CAN'T GET A RUN " - cost wise, anything from R5 grand upwards p.m. ( when they are sick or injured you still pay EVERY MONTH )
IT'S NOT EASY BEING AN OWNER........ YOU NEED YOUR FAIR SHARE OF " LUCK "

@RADETZKY
Here's a workable solution:
Get every owner in your predicament to rope in a black punter as a partner/syndicate member, with even 1%. Each time your horse is eliminated, let him cry foul and demand preferential accommodation in terms of Government's transformation policy!
Amandla! That's the language.... power to owners, trainers and punters!

Some good suggestions...just wish we can get them to the right people...but at least i know history repeats itself...everything has to break down sometime to start anew...
Maybe not today or tomorrow but the wheel does turn...slowly...but it turns...
Dash...i think Elvis explained the "maiden" situation well...i for one had to run some maidens in "wrong" races just to get them started...if you don't place you've got kak...after three unplaced runs you got serious kak...
Dynasty...you lucky Gold Circle at least split your races...not in P country...
Where's the old days...10 races...4 maidens and 2 juvenile maidens and 4 serious races...and that was on wednesdays...on Saturdays 2 maidens 2 juvenile maidens and 6 big races...I miss Bloem, Newmarket, Gosforth...

I too own a struggling maiden. In fact after many places the poor animal is no longer competitive in maidens. We shifted her to pathetic low hcps and she earned in her first cheque in a long time.
As an owner this is what I'm doing. BUT, it's ridiculous that we force punters and racing fans to watch this shit for my benefit as an owner. I only carry on with the horse because racing is happy to spend money on a poor spectacle rather than a race for much better (and more deserving) horses.
So while my really bad horse is busy earning money, my much better and more expensive horse (and more 'spectacular' from a racing & turnover point of view) stands in her box at 6k per month. My friends are now joking with me that my non-winning horse if about to pass the earnings of my multiple winner. Good joke and unfortunately funny.
I would like to make this point to the forum: all arguments about programs, ratings and maidens and whatever all finally must acknowledge...that no matter what we do the program offers a finite number of races and all our re-arranging just changes which horse wins. So if we create 9 Maiden races, we lose 9 other races. Who is to say that the 9 maiden races which suits the owners of those winners, is the right business decision for the game as a whole? And when we change an MR80 hcp and run a MR70 hcp instead, all that happens is we let a worse horse win instead.
Next time someone on TellyTrack says racing needs to cater for "X", just remember that they then just cut "Y" and when we make room for all the bad horses, good horses and good racing suffer. I think we hurt the sport more by catering for bad horse purchases at the expense of good racing which is what we sell as our product. In the end Porche has the highest market cap, and Ford goes bang.

Well put JD; if there was an easy solution, surely someone would have put it forward by now - we al agree that there needs to be a balance, unfortunately what would seem to be the right 'balance' for owner A who has 5 maidens trying to get into a race, may not be the same as owner B (who is lucky enough to own 5 'better' horses and is struggling to get them qualified/prepared for bigger things) 's perception of the right 'balance'.
We either need more races (and as pirates pointed out 'why only 7 races at the upcoming Turffies night meet'), or fewer horses (or perhaps both?)
