MORE RACES??
We need more meetings.... IMVHO STUFF Clairwood. (for example)or Flamingo Park (for example)
WHY Cant there be 5 Gaureng Meetings per week?
If the Proportion of horses in training is > in Gauteng then there should be more races, so if sometimes on a Saturday there are dual meetings, why cant we have racing in Gauteng also on a Monday/Wednesday/Firday and Weekend?
BUT none of this is ever heard BECAUSE its all about betting, its about "treating them mean and keeping them keen" Personally i remember meetings at the Vaal a good few years back with 4 and 5 horse fields. Where are those days gone now? The programme sucks (read Louis Goosens articles on this topic) and i am sure he is not the only one.
We have a filly with Mr Goosen, she is FORCED to run in a conditions plate on the 19th OUT at the weights BECAUSE there is NO other 1000m suitable race for her. Not for the forseeable future anyway. There just is NOT enough racing in Gauteng and that is from maidens upwards.

Ultimately (G Woodruff said on TV) the reason we run the race, is to see who is best.
Our sport is equine athletics.
Some people spend a fortune trying to buy the best horse, others think they can find champions cheaply, or 'goedkoop' as they say (well bought).
It's a competition and to the victor goes the spoils. It really is time to stop babying and making excuses for the failures. Bad horse is no good, not for the owner, trainer, jockey or spectator and very definitely lousy to gamble on. Can't we stop making concessions to the crap (horses, trainers whatever) and focus on a system that promotes and rewards ability rather than pandering to the not-good-at-all.
Every race generates a winner, so let merit move a horse to the next race and not just lower the weight until some poor beastie (even my poor nag) crosses the line first.
If I were to appeal to your RA, I would ask them to make the proper pay-days AFTER the maidens. Winning a Maiden should be HOW you qualify to get to the handicaps, like a minimum qualification that proves you can run. Every type of competition from lotto to Wimbledon says the better you do the more you get...the carrot system. By loading the stakes to reward people for at least trying (big Maiden money and hcps for the old horses or the very challenged)...is the very opposite of what horse racing is about. It really is communism vs capitalism. Communism always collapses.
I know that racing is very expensive. So is buying Kruger Rands. I only own parts of horses in training (and therefore no KR) and unfortunately that's my cloth.
Of course, all this is meaningless to the punter. He just wants horse races that excite him enough to want to bet on them if ridden by people skilled enough not to make him lose in cold blood. It's like two alien worlds colliding, even while they need each other, neither group of owners or punters seem to have a clue what the other needs or wants.
PS
I think buying a KR every month would prove a better investment than training fees...but then this isn't about savings. The Kruger Rand wouldn't phone me either.

Good point Dash on qualifying idea...that's why punters lots of times think our straggelers are a coup when they win...they don't understand we actually more surprised than they are...
I was always under the impression the VAAL was kept exactly for what u said - the weaker horses with weaker races and prize money and Turffies for the big guns...
Here i also agree with Easy...more good races at Turffies for big guns and normal one sand one vaal turf for lesser horses...
Overall i hope all ideas get accross even if I have to keep mailing till I get banned...

Just want to draw everybodies attention to Greyville Night meeting - Friday 22 October 2010 - NOMINATIONS:
Know it's Gold Circle country but the same problem:
Race 1 = 52 nominations - Maiden Plate F&M over 1900m
Race 2 = 112 nominations - Maiden Plate over 1600m
Race 9 = 125 nominations - Maiden Plate F&M over 1400m
289 maidens nominated in three maidens of which 70% will get eliminated - maiden races already only R55 200 there!
GREYVILLE 29 October 2010 [my runners nominated]:
Race 1 = 135 nominations - Maiden Plate over 1400m Detzky's Diamond nominated - drawn 5 [yippy!] - too many first timers - will be eliminated 4th time in one month!]
Race 2 = 65 nominations - Maiden Plate over 1900m
Race 8 = 114 nominations - Maiden Plate 1200m [Rajinzky nominated - drawn 78 - merit too low will be eliminated]
314 maidens nominated - I REST MY CASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How must we run our horses if there's no RACES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cater for more maiden races!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
