Rian Du Plessis was interviewed for last week's edition of the Financial Mail.
Are there plans to sell any more of Phumelela’s five racetracks?
We are exploring cost savings and it must always be an option. The tracks we own are used only 35 weeks a year, but if we were to lay synthetic surfaces we could hold the same number of race meetings every year on fewer racetracks, and be in a position to offer better facilities. However, we would consider the selling of any racecourses only after close consultation with our sponsors, the [horse] owners.
Is there still potential for a merger with your only horse-racing competitor, Gold Circle?
Though we are on record as saying we would welcome a merger of equals with Gold Circle, there is no chance of that happening now. But we do co-operate with the company where it is possible to rationalise and cut costs.
As I have previously said, I believe Phumelela is a property deveopment company in disguise. Just as well they don't own Randjiesfontein, Lol.

One listed company out of two is bad enough. Merger will dissolve whatever balance that remains. imho.
But hey, I only own a few now and punting beats owning every time so as my kids say..."duh! dad"

P A E I principals
He is a strong A - will sell everything and put the money on fixed deposit!
Perhaps they are referring to synthetic surfaces as :
Cartoon Horse racing on synthetic tracks
That way we can run every 3 min, have no overheads?
No owners full of 114*#113
No trainers complaining about the track
No jockeys on strike
Lol
Be like William Hill
Cartoon horses racing - flat and jumps
Cartoon dog racing - flat and jumps
Cartoon car racing
Cartoon motorbikes
Cartoon bicycle
What next?
Cartoon punters
Cartoon money?

So, Mr. Duppie...Where's the polytrack [as he notes i'm a horse owner] THAT WAS PROMISED of R4m???????? Then i wouldn't have the Vaal race meeting on Turf abandoned as it wasn't moved to the sand due to rain - with the polytrack in place we wouldn't have had any headaches...but you just spend money worth 2 polytracks do re - do the vaal sand surface!!!!!!!!!!!! That after trainers complained about 3 months back [and wasn't mentioned to public] that the sand [especially kickback] wasn't up to scratch!!!!!! Kruger Gold and at least 70 other horses had to be treated for excessive sand in their eyes after a particular meeting which was never made mention. I had to use a shovel just to clean his blinkers out!!!!!! With the Vaal sand currently you never know if the going is to be heavy or fast depending on the tractors and ploughs you use...SO, WHERE'S THE POLYTRACK BEFORE YOU SPEND ANOTHER R4M OR START TRUCKING AWAY MINE SAND FROM THE BIG T??????????????????????????????

Hibs,
I personally think there's a debacle about the levy's and rent issue at the Vaal - i think some trainers are behind [due to owners not paying accounts] and are scared to get involved in these affairs - but i just feel it's about time they get involved. Maybe they think P has hold on them due to these circumstances but i'm now past keeping my mouth shut...i'm getting more irritated by the minute - sick of being ruled by vets that can charge as they like [they make more than GP's], taking stick for abandoned meetings due to operators incompetence, organisations that can't stand up for my rights and horses that can't run...BUT OPERATORS FORGET NO OWNER IS TOO FOND TO PAY HIS BILL IF HIS FREAKIN HORSES GET ELIMINATED ALL THE FREAKIN TIME and maybe thats why theirs freakin issues...

Forgive my ignorance, but which 5 tracks would this be? The Vaal (as far as I know) does not belong to P - I think they lease it from Anglo America?
