Summer Cup

Been looking through the last few years results and can`t even see a 3yo runner, the last 3 year old to win the summer cup was Caradoc in 1966 and now we have a 3yo Fav for the Cup!

There is 17 runners rated 100+ in the race ,there must be value in the bigger priced runners?

Two im looking at are Winters Night and Zirconeum but im open minded atm

what we think?

I have just glanced through the race, but I think Zirconeum does offer value; Kevin Shea said in a interview that one should draw a line through her last run as things just didn't go for her - she has no stamina doubts having finished close up in the July - only thing is can a filly beat the boys (she almost did in the July); I think Mother Russia is best up to 1800, but I fancy her to finish in front of Perana this time - best of the males over this trip imo is Bulsara - we shall see on Saturday

PERANA for me again... rated extremely highly by MDK... said he is a group1 horse after perana won his maiden in his 2nd run. (tu)

Must say that this years field is an improvement on some of the ones we have had in the recent past where the G1 status was questionable...Perana could be the lay of the year...he has so much against him irrespective of how much ability he has...however the ratings suggest he is the horse to beat...will be interested in what the others on the forum think...

FC, I beg to differ. Joburgs answer to the Met / July and a field like that. Take out MDK horses and what do you have (PJ excluded although i feel he will battle to win outside Gauteng ) ?
If only their were more raiders ????

Half the field are raiders Shikar. MDK is based in Durban, so is Craig Eudey and Neil Bruss, and we have Ramsden from C.Town.

There is always some form of contraversy around final fields for major races but I must say Sean Tarry must feel quite aggreved with two of his runners being reserves. Especially Power Park who ran a cracking third behind Perana last time out.

How Geoff Woodruff managed to get both Aluminium and Cracker Jack into the race when IMO Tarry's two reserve's would run rings around these two.

I suppose it must help when you have friends in high places. I would love to see the rational in accepting the Woodruff two into the race and having Tarry's two as reserves.
