Piere Strydom
“We had a great run. Always travelling well. When we eased out on straightening I was happy to go after Rocket Man early as I didn’t want him to get away. My bloke gave me everything and we got there on the line. It’s brilliant to win and I really want to thank the owners for being loyal to me as there’s plenty of good jockeys here they could have chosen.’

Its amazing how we are all looking for a champion in SA,and its fantastic how everybody has responded after watching JJ stride to the popular favourite.MDK,is by far our most popular trainer in my opinion, but the small trainer Lucky, which felt like just the other,..day was riding as a jockey.Wow how the wheel has turned for this Grecko. The amazing feeling was that as an x jock,he was know giving Striker and other jockeys instructions, when he was in the change rooms throwing dirty linnen and boots at them.

Absolutely farken unbelievable! I was shouting JJ and the Rocket home cause I was on the exacta! I's a bit ridiculous to think we can't bet into the biggest pool in the world. I also took some 12-1 with Ladbrokes but 18-1 would have been nice on the Hong Kong tote! Nothing like having some Sunday Shekels!
I was reading the track notes from the Hong Kong Jockey club site and they said JJ was working the house down. And to think JJ has been in quarantine for 3 months, missed a further 5 days of work and to my mind looked like he was carrying a little bit of pudding. I think he can even improve on this performance.
What a masterful ride by Striker, I've always maintained when Striker puts his mind to it and is at his his best he is up there with the best in the world. Lets not forget the SAF connection of Felix and Fred Crabbia on Rocket Man.
I would think Dubai is the next logical step for JJ. Lets remember JJ failed on the dirt but the track at Meydan is now Tapeta, a synthetic surface. I would think he would be equally as effective on the Tapeta track as he is on turf. The Golden Shaheen is run on World Cup night and I assume that's got to be his next goal.
As the saying goes form is temporary and class is permanent!!!
Congrats to Lucky and connections!
