Fortune To Return To The Cape
14 years 6 months ago
Read this on Racingweb, JOCKEY Andrew Fortune’s four-month contract to ride for trainer Gary Alexander in Gauteng has come to an end. He said on the RW podcast, Wednesday, that he is likely to return to Cape Town soon. He will be available on a freelance basis.
Fortune said: “I don’t believe I’ve been riding well recently. I just haven’t felt good in the saddle and I’ve ridden some bad horses. I’d like to make Cape Town my home base again and be more selective. Ideally I’d like to get three or four quality rides per meeting. I will travel to Johannesburg if required.
Fortune explained that while he was generally happy in Johannesburg, the city “messed with his sanity”, because he is sorely missing the work he’d been doing at drug rehabilitation centres in the Cape and had been out of touch with his own rehabilitation group.
“Working with drug addicts is my calling, I need to get back to Cape Town so I can help them and perform my talks like I did before I moved to Gauteng.”
Next Tuesday, Fortune will be facing an inquiry and a one-month suspension into dropping his hands near the line when riding Noblewood at Durbanville on 6 October. He has another month and a R30,000 fine pending for a similar offence on African Love at Turffontein on 4 September.

I think we are to harsh.
I respect his reasons for returning to the Cape.
For his personnel future best decision.
Good Luck Manne enjoy the imposed holiday.

Like punters, trainers, horses and jockey he's going through a bad spell at the moment...give the guy a chance he will return to form eventually as a rider he's top class comes next to no one imo....
