J J's performance doesn't even get a mention amongst the sports highlights on the Supersport Blitz channel, let alone footage of his performance, or mention of the superb performance by trainer, jockey and yes, the owners as well for spending a small fortune to take their shot.

No mention on any South African News programmes like etv or SABC channels either. Sad really.

Generally, news programmes are always looking for newsworthy content. You have to ask who's fault it is that they don't get any racing?
Did racing tell anybody that it was going to take place to set up the interest ,or the subsequent result.
The problem is that racing and 'news' don't give a toss about each other.

Not sure i have seen Snow Fairy winner of the big race in Hong Kong yesterday on the news etc over here(apart from racing channels)
Remember the poll after Sea The Stars won the Arc,and only a tiny fraction of the public had even heard of him?
The Herald Dumping Racing to create more room for other Sports?
Just not news anymore?
What %%%%% of the population you reckon take part in racing in some way? 5-10% or less?
Sure the viewing figures are estimated for tellytrack at around 100 000 per day ,pretty low huh?

Well done to 702 and ch415.
I just think that a channel that caters for sports news and repeats the same clips a dozen times in a day should include something about these sorts of achievements. Whose fault it is is another debate.

Don't you guys think it should be up to the horse racing people, like NHRA, RA, Phumelela ect. to send out a press release? That's normally how these things work is it not?
Then the informed media can decide to run the story, do a follow up, whatever.
They can't report on something they don't even know happened?
What say you?

My point exactly Tommy.I think that,in addition, a press release in advance is also a good idea. Many sports fans will watch anything if it is SA vs whoever, and any who had tuned in may well have become converts, and thats what marketing is all about.
I see sport covered on TV that I don't believe TV went looking for....the sport put it's hand up and marketed itself to them.

I remember when London News went to Hong Kong & won.... everybody, even the maid, knew he was running, the totes/bookies were full & the buzz was fantastic. Pity the same vibe wasnt around for JJ!!!!!
