@BART:
The rot sets in from the NHRA; completely toothless (only against 'disreputable' owners)!
Besides me, many others have had such experiences. My horse was transferred into the name of someone else without my consent or knowledge!
To date, I never received payment or resolution... about 8 years!

Here is what I would like from my trainer:
An email to advise me that the horse is running in race x. ( I usually get it )
An email or call before it runs to give me an opinion on its chances. ( I usually get it )
An email or call afterwards to review the run ( I usually get it )
An email or call if something untoward occurs - particularly a matter that is going to involve the vets. ( I don't usually get that! )
An email or call BEFORE a horse is nominated for an 'expensive to run in' race. ( I don't usually get that ). And then does not accept.
An occasional social invitation ( Stable visit for a drink or invitation to a racing box ). Once or twice a year is enough for me.
An annual rest period for each of my horses away from the yard.
Some sort of effort at local horse sales. ( How do they imagine horses are acquired? )
What I don't want from my trainer :
I absolutely will NOT tolerate the use of any prohibited or banned substances ( You know who you are and its a disgrace )
I do not want tips on my or other runners from the yard as I seldom punt horses and NEVER my own. Why? Because I do enough money in cold blood owning them.
What I would strongly advise any disgruntled owner to do is this :
Read through the terms and conditions of the standard Authority To Act document.
Contrary to popular misconception it is NOT an all embracing Power Of Attorney as many owners assume. Your trainer has a lot LESS authority to make decisions on your behalf than you might have believed.

Honesty is a good start! Plus comms is a must.
If a trainer does not know how a horse will run rather just say nothing, its a bit cheaper for the owner.
Many excuses needs gelding, needs more/less ground, jockey did not listen, bad draw, etc, etc
A piece of shit would sometimes be the better answer.
Needed run is my favourite reply, how can trainers get a first timer to win and a horse in training needs a run?
Why do we need 4/6 weeks between runs? What was wrong with Buddy Marouns style of training by running a horse to keep it fit plus collecting stake cheques at the same time.
Overseas I notice horses running over the jumps 3 times in a week over 3 miles and recently in Australia the horses in the Melbourne Cup running in a feature race the week before?

Dave
"recently in Australia the horses in the Melbourne Cup running in a feature race the week before? "
NO you are incorrect, not a feature race 3 group 1's in the space of 16 odd days, including the MC

OK easy was just trying to prove a point, I am sure we have a link to Pharlap on the site where he won 3 races on each day of the festival leading up to the Melbourne Cup on the 4th day, so the story that my father trained that way and his father before him could be challenged.

Most recently clinton binda almost pulled it of with saint stephen winning three races in 10days, owners deserve to see their horses run instead of sitting in the box
I think the worse horses to get involved with would be the leased horses, speaking from personal expieriences I think you better of with a 30k horse.
Does anybody remeber how many owners jungle warrior had? I stand to be corrected but I think it was 20

Dave, my sarcasim was aimed at the SA trainers and your comment about them "needing a run" and not aimed at you. I too agree 1000000% that Buddy had the right balance and that the mind boggles how a horse can need a run when changing stables and running quick or still need a run if it ran 1 week ago. The aussies PROVE that horses CAN RUN often.

Umlilo, if you were a resident of the United States, I would suspect that you had done too many drugs in the 1960s.
For a guy that claims to be a journalist, you seem to have difficulty writing a complete sentence. You insist on putting words in parentheses where they don't belong. Your spelling is bad.
I would love to be able to understand what the hell you are trying to say, but I cannot for the life of me get past the bad grammar.
C'mon! Get with the program and concentrate.
BTW, any trainer that is any good will always wins races no matter how poor his stock. Cream also rises to the top. Trainers that make excuses and do not win fail to win because they are no good.
I have seen it all over the world. Good trainers win races with junk horses.
In the vast majority of cases, the horse is more important than the jockey or the trainer.
But in some instances, when the trainer is gifted, the trainer is more important.
Same thing with stallions. If a stallion is any good, his offspring will run. It doesn't make any difference how bad the mares are that he is bred to.
Cream always rises to the top.
There are winners, and there are complainers.
The reason certain trainers attract the best horses is because they are winners.
