I also think no imagination has been applied to the type of races. I am very worried when we start to make races for horses who have finished in the last 3 in their previous 3 starts though. At some point some horses should just retire gracefully. I also worry about 'making' winners from bad horses that go into the studbook.
As for killing off racing, remember that any race will always have a winner, no matter the entry requirements or the weight conditions. We are merely debating "who" should be favoured, or even if anyone should.
There are races which are designed to be won by the best horse, and others invented to won by anything and if you meddle you can favour stronger or weaker horses, depending on who you allow to make amendments.
