Mike de Kock triple-handed in Guineas trial
Racing Post
Meydan: UAE 1,000 Guineas Trial 7f, AW, 3yo fillies
What they say
Mike de Kock, trainer of Mahbooba, Empire Rose and Reem
"They are three nice fillies and Mahbooba is a Grade 1 winner in South Africa. We are trying her on Tapeta but as a daughter of Galileo she may be better on turf - and she has to give weight to Chocolicious who beat us last year, while the Chapple-Hyam filly [Crying Lightening] is rated 104 and we have to give her lumps of weight.
"Kevin Shea won on Empire Rose at home over this kind of trip - she's a nice filly from Argentina who will be campaigned with the 1,000 Guineas and Oaks in mind. If she fails to handle the Tapeta we'll revert to turf.
"Reem's win was over further - her Australian form looks okay but we are still learning about her."
Herman Brown, trainer of Chocolicious and Quick Val
"Chocolicious won a Grade 1 in South Africa and is probably our best hope because she has been here longer and has had more work. I hope she runs a nice race - they are both nice fillies."
Eduardo Martins, trainer of Energia Cintilante
"She won well on her UAE debut but that was on dirt at Sharjah. The form has worked out well and she has improved since then but this is a lot tougher race."
Saeed Bin Suroor, trainer of Abtasaamah and Najoum
"It looks a tough race but both ours have been improving steadily in their work and have really enjoyed the weather. There is little between them but I would have to be hopeful ratherthan confident."
Peter Chapple-Hyam, trainer of Crying Lightening
"She seems to have taken last weekend's journey to Dubai fine. We are taking it on trust that she'll act on the Tapeta surface and it looks a hot race but she is receiving weight from key rivals and this race will tell us more about where we can place her."

Mendip set for Al Maktoum Challenge
Meydan: Al Maktoum Challenge RI (Group 3) 1m, AW, 4yo+
What they say
Saeed Bin Suroor, trainer of Mendip and Colonial
"They are both in good form but certain to come on for the run. Mendip won twice on the Meydan Tapeta last year; he has had only four career starts and is a horse we have always really liked. He had a small setback after the UAE Derby and we have given him all the time he needed but I am hopeful of a big run. He is an exciting prospect and one we are really looking forward to.
"Colonial is improving all the time and I am very happy with him. He handles the surface in his work but needs to prove himself on it."
Herman Brown, trainer of Fencing Master
"He is a horse who I really like - he has form in some top races in Europe - but we are going to find out a lot about him as he is very lazy in his work. He is a great horse to work with and handles the surface in his work. I'd like to think he's a potential World Cup horse - he won at Dundalk, which is a similar surface but we will see how he goes here before deciding whether to revert to turf."
Mike de Kock, trainer of Mr Brock, King of Rome and Imbongi
"All three are going to improve fitness-wise from their runs and, ideally, we would be further ahead in their training. Imbongi won the Zabeel Mile and was an excellent third in the Dubai Duty Free on World Cup night, but he was badly in need of his comeback and looks like he will need this also.
"Mr Brock was a revelation on the surface last year - he was beaten just under three lengths in the World Cup - and King Of Rome also enjoyed it. This looks a wide-open contest though."
Mubarak bin Shafya, trainer of My Indy
"This will be his first start for us and he has been off since this race last year, having won it in 2009 on dirt. He is working well enough and Pat Cosgrave is happy with him."
Mahmood Al Zarooni, trainer of Frozen Power, Sea Lord and Storm Ultralight
"Obviously it is the first meeting so we are going to get a good idea where we are with regard to the horses' fitness. Frozen Power was a big horse for us last summer and proved himself on the Meydan Tapeta last year - I hope he might be one to follow this year as he is going very well at home.
"Ahmed Ajtebi has been pleased with Storm Ultralight and Sea Lord is going nicely but both have wide draws which is not ideal. Sea Lord is an exciting new horse for us as he has won on the Polytrack as well as turf. He's a real nice type, very tough."
Stef Higgins, trainer of Mac Love
"He has been a great servant to the yard and is in great form and absolutely bouncing. He may not be getting any younger but he is fresh and well. He has won at Kempton, is working nicely on the Tapeta and is used to a similar surface at home so that should not be an issue. He is our first Dubai runner and it is great to be here."
Doug Watson, trainer of Green Coast
"Obviously he did not fire on his comeback but he has been working well since and we know he handles the conditions. He has run well in this race in the past and that was a great second in the Godolphin Mile last year. It is a competitive renewal but we have to be hopeful of a good rungiven some luck."
Luca Cumani, trainer of Mabait
"The horse is in good shape and has been pleasing us since he arrived. He is in good form and we were hopeful of a good run but have been done no favours by the draw with either of our runners on the first night.
"We will need luck in running from out there but he worked well in a gallop over the weekend and looks set for a bold show so longas the surface isn't a problem with only two of the entries (Mr Brock and Sea Lord) having a higher official rating than he has. That's not to say reaching a place will be easy as there looks to be a fair amount of strength and depth tothe race."

Good run expected from Bankable in Tapeta test
Meydan: Conquest (conditions race) 6f, AW, 3yo+
Herman Brown, trainer of Bankable
"He is fresh and well and I expect a good run, even though the trip is obviously on the short side. We are toying with the idea of aiming him at the World Cup so this looks a good opportunity to race him on Tapeta. He works well on it so we will see how he gets on."
Mike de Kock, trainer of Atlantic Sport and Our Giant
"It is our first chance to race Atlantic Sport and we should find out a lot about him; he has been running well in Germany. Our Giant had a few problems last season and we could not get a prep into him before World Cup night. He is a very talented sprinter who has acclimatised wonderfully well over the summer and is going very nicely indeed. But he doesn't have the best draw."

Do you guys think Clearly Silver stays?
I seem to remember him being more of a sprinting type?
Great start by MDK for the season......but it's only because he is there himself overseeing everything (hello Pirates)
