Greyville looking dodgy

The racemeeting scheduled for Greyville Racecourse on Saturday night, January 1, 2011, is in the balance and a final decision on whether to race or not will be taken late on Saturday morning.

The current weather forecast is for more rain tonight (Friday) continuing into Saturday.

The course recorded 40mm of rain during the week and the current penetrometer reading is 33.

Over 20mm were recorded on Tuesday evening and a further 16 mm on Thursday night.

No rain today yet. It looks overcast, and should hold off until this evening. Holding thumbs that it doesn't rain though, and if it does, that it will just be a drizzle.
But I doubt we'll be spared the rain some time this evening
Would be sad to lose the meeting

I was on course at around 3:30 yesterday afternoon and it was absolutely pouring. Its not raining at the moment, but it will most probably rain tonight.

Hopefully if they can't race tomorrow, they will postpone the race meeting and not abandon it.

With the amount of rain we have had since 14h00 today, and as I look out my window now, its still pouring, its highly unlikely that they will race tomorrow at Greyville.

Neverthless, HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone

I notice a "new" trainer "carded" for Greyville tom night. A JN Nel anyone know anything about him?

As far as I know, John Nel is the ex-work rider. He was assistant to Grant Maroun before Grant sold up. Wayne Badenhorst is the brother of Vikki and the son of ex-jockey Kleintjie. He trained briefly in PE and I think also worked for a while for Yvette Bremner.

I apologize to all concerned if I've got it wrong!

22H30 and there is no letting up on the rain. It continues to come down in Durban...... Greyville tomorrow night now looks very very bleek and I would be really surprised if they race.

Cheers
