If I was a rich man ….or perhaps just a lowly CEO

In an imaginary world what action would you take to save Racing and perhaps Phumelela
This is how I’d start..
The New Kid(King if you prefer) On The Block is the Soccer bet in all forms.
This round faced Demon has stolen Racing fans in SA faster than a cigarette smuggler can buy an illegal firearm and hijack an MEC’s BMW!.
My take is to befriend this guy and use him to regain a new breed of Track Fans.
The approach would be to buy or build a building in Soweto and call it Soccer World(or similar).
I’d ensure that there was suitable retail space to rent out to strategic partners. I’d build an indoor Soccer field and start a local league with a fair amount of attention being paid to a Women’s League (I’d try to enlist the help of Government here as the hope would be that younger girls would enjoy sport and thus not wish to be burdened with an unwanted pregnancy.) . I’d make a point of having popular daily matches screened on big screens. Horse Racing links would be on every second television and the waitrons would be dressed in either racing silks or soccer clobber . I’d have a bar/nightclub next to or part of the venue – this portal would be used to give away tickets to weekend racing and to a lesser extent soccer matches. Promo’s from companies – especially female oriented products – would be a high priority.
I’d fill the mall with shops geared towards sports and an active lifestyle but with an emphasis on value for money not labels(to accomodate all people)- A small portion of rental income would be used to support a soccer/education facility – perhaps John Perlmans’ Dreamfields project.
Racing events – July, Summer Cup Emerald would be promoted- promoted and then promoted again – even to the point where customers complained!!!
A suitable taxi rank would be set up with shuttles being subsidized to Turffontein and the Vaal and obviously Soccer City. Daily hospitality packages would be sold for racing venues at affordable rates – No R250 nonsense – rather R50 drink/handlunch/and R10 betting voucher.
Punters would be encouraged to partake in a Racing/Soccer experience rather than just a once off punt. Perhaps a monthly Boxing tournament would also take place on the indoor soccer field …
The Racing Taxi’s/Buses would be freshly adorned with Racing symbols or horses in full stride?
More to come when I have more time or have another Nightmare/Dream during the next few days(amazing what effect a large chunk of cheddar can have on the brain if eaten just before sleep!!)
The floor is yours to add your dream/nightmare

Marketing - If you offer ladies free drinks and entrance to a club guys clamour to get in and pay for the priveledge - Get women invloved in soccer and guys will follow in droves then the natural competitive Macho edge moves in and betting will benifit - Soccer in the USA is a really big sport with girls and there is no reason why SA should be different - then the glamour side of Racing grows as women like to dress up and go to events like the Met etc and the boys and their Lolly(you will be missed Mr Jackson) will follow
