TELLY TRACK PRESENTER : S SHAW

Mr Shaw
Please let us know when you will be purchasing a bookmakers license. The prices you believe people should be getting on English Racing are fanatstic, especially if you are not laying the bet. I promise to be your first online customer and I guarantee I will stick you out and I won't even ask you for a stretch. I think you should do a little more homework before you start quoting prices.

Sorry Davevdv but I am with Chainsaw on this one. The UK has a highly developed fixed odds system, tote almost non existent in the UK. Therefore their prices are well calculated and near as dammit to correct. The fact that we have to accept prices in SA when the UK bookies are offering far better is unacceptable. (UK bookies prices is what he is quoting - go to
www.racingpost.co.uk
and compare). In SA we are fleeced of our money by false favourites muddling form a meaningless merit racing system so why should we not get the equivalent of the UK odds in SA. They have the same access as we have to the UK odds and should therefore price up accordingly or stay away from it completely!

Don't worry, betting exchanges are inevitable and then true market forces will prevail. The true oddsmakers, existing ones included, will thrive.
Those that think having a licence makes you a bookmaker can look forward to a new career!

Davevdv, you have no clue what you are talking about. Maybe you should do your homework.Shaheen is 100% correct.
The prices quoted by the S.African bookies on Uk races are always well under the official prices. If a horse is 1/1 in the Uk we will be lucky to get 8/10. If its 6/10, the bookies will have 1/3 or 7/20.
If the prices were 1 point below betfair, we as punters would stomach it, but to continously be 3 or 4 points below is criminal. The irony of it all is that the bookies offer betfair prices on Interbet. So before you even say that you can't buy back at those prices, DON'T.
You as a bookmaker are making huge margins on Uk racing.
Don't be a hater of Shaheen just because he has brought your guys ridiculous prices to the attention of the uninformed.
Don't for one second think that we are mug punters.

Exchanges overseas have provided their markets with the competition necessary to give punters a fair deal.
In South Africa we have to deal with 125% markets and betting tax as opposed to 105% (or 100% Betfair) and no tax. Even in the short term, for a punter, that can be the difference between winning and losing.
