I get a lot of raised eyebrows when I say this but I will say it again :
This particular yard is extremely effective ( often deadly ) up to 1400 metres.
It's pretty good up to 1600 metres.
It gets decidedly 'iffy' beyond those distances.

I was citing my research from across the board on ALL runners- not on selected, isolated races. ( You also left out the winner of the Paddock Stakes; but at 14/1 how fancied was it? ).
You could possibly even use the Met meeting as a reasonable sample of my research - two winners up the straight ( 1200 m ) but beaten everywhere else including as ante-post even money favourite in the Derby. That one 'flew' in the Guineas but pretty much ran on without threatening in the Derby.
Its not a criticism as I have precisely the same opinion of De Kock in sprint races. I just don't think its his forte. Likewise I don't believe the late Buddy Maroun would have taken exception to being rated primarily as a top class 'sprinter trainer'.

Whether Garrick is right or wrong in this instance only time will tell (Justin still has many years ahead of him).
However, there is definite merit in saying that certain trainers are better with sprinters and others with stayers. Mike De Kock is a genius for example - but I wouldn't be too keen to send him a sprinter.

my take on it is Western Winter(not really a staying sire) - the horse is bred to be a miler and if he goes to KZN should be a contender for the Drill Hall etc and KZN Guineas

it might be that certain top trainers when buying horses look for sprinter milers and not staying types...the kanemeyers and obviously mdk have mostly always bought classic type of horses...i was told the other day that mdk hasnt won 3 group 0nes in sa and that is the mercury sprint cape flying and one other perhaps the computaform sprint

There wasa recent interview with Justin where he admitted to asking the oldman for help when it comes to sprint races. Cant remember the race or date of interview, but it could have been Cape Flying

I think its about one thing only..... He needs to be gelded! If you watch a re run you will see the horse to to be pushed a bit early to keep him on the bit. Needs to get his mind on racing.......

I'd hope that the days of gelding well bred Gr 1 winners are behind us.
