I agree with the principle of putting on races for work riders once in a while, but imo the timing stinks - any of the two meetings during the week would have been better fair for a Saturday, should have been switched with the workriders meet, or how about reserving some of those 'low stakes' meetings for work riders, It is supposed to be the build up to the Gauteng feature season, and we have to endure a less than inspiring card (to say the least) - partly as a result of the work riders.

So, although very competitive as well, I am rather having a go at the Kenilworth card instead.

CALLING ALL HANDICAP GURU'S

Kenilworth race 5: I'm trying to figure out why West Island was raised 1,5kg and Stormy Affair only 1kg .... Can someone explain?

The workriders also have wives and kids. I'm glad for the workriders who'll have their family support on track today.

Today is probably the proudest day for many of them so if you're not in favour of it and you can get to the Vaal then do it, believe me your mind will be changed forever (on this subject) and you won't be so selfish in future.

I would venture a guess that it has something to do with the trip of 2500 - there is this principle of 'compressing' the weights over ground - not sure where one can find the details. If you look at the race today, SA has a MR of 88 and WI a MR of 79, so in a race over shorter (1600 - 1800), the difference in weights would have been 4.5 kg's, but because of the 'compression' of weights, the difference today is only 3 kg's.

Strange but true

Good for them, but I reserve my right to abstain - let's agree to disagree on this one
