Maybe JJ needed the run ?
His first start in dubai last year he also ran a shocker , yes it was on the dirt on that occasion .
Today was different he was running in a handicap conceding huge chunks of weight all round or maybe he just had one off day(i agrre with fellow posters 7/10 in a HANDICAP thats thievery) . He is definetly better than this
and maybe he should try the sufrace just one more time . I think from watching the carnival very closely , that track has been running slow in the last 3 or so meetings as opposed to the 1st few non carnival meetings where it was running quicker .
JJ may not have enjoyed the slower track tonite . On the big day i reckon that track will be prepared to run quicker than at present hence more compact and friendlier to turf horses . It is purely my opinion that JJ will handle a faster tappetta surface and can be competitive on it .
Your thoughts guys !

Thanks for updates guys and hope you are having fun Anthony.
I guess we had the same conversation last year, I also heard he was fine with the "tapeta" surface.
Its a big call which way to go next, try again or go back to grass and we will just have to leave that to the connections and sure they will make the right call and JJ can show us again what he is capable of.

Had a similar experience with Magic Master in Dubai hated the surface, after winning 5 in a row on the grass at home. JJ will bounce back he always does

I am not second guessing, but can somebody please tell me why he was run on the Tapeta, when he has superb turf form and the big race in Dubai is run on the grass? What am I missing. Have they changed the Sprint to the Tapeta for this year?

Stand under correction but gather the bigger race is on tapeta, maybe Sabre/Bob can help clarify?

The Golden Shaheen has always been on the non-turf surface, Barry. It a $2m, 1200 metre GR1 race.
This year thay have moved the Al Quoz, a turf race, to World Cup night but is a $1m 1000 metre GR2 race.
JJ won it two years ago when it was a Gr3 and run over 1200 metres.

So the connections are between a rock and a hard place; apparently he doesn't act on the Tapeta and the 1000 on the turf could prove too short against top quality sprinters - tough decision - perhaps just move him on to Hong Kong?

Frodo have you heard of any possible opponents? so far the sprints this year at Meydan have been made up of uk handicappers,if he came off ok the other night the turf sprint might be ripe for him..

hibs I'm really not one to comment about the possible opposition (Sabre could perhaps shed some light?), but in years gone by the Americans always seem to send some top sprinters (but possibly they do no have top sprinters on turf?)
