Didn't Snaith say that it takes a true champion to come up to Gauteng and win a Grade 1 in JHB, after Dancer's Daughter won the Empress club Stakes at Turffies...I guess Ebony is just not in Dancer's Daughter's league...

And that marked the end of Dancer's Daughter's career. I can't blame the Ebony Flyer boys from staying far away from that option, and it really isn't necessary to race in Gauteng to be a champion. Who's doing better in Dubai - Irish Flame (who raced in Jozi) or Bold Silvano and River Jetez (who didn't)?

i stand to be corrected but dd didnt break down in the race but at home in training which can happen anytime anywhere ...horses travel across continents to race nevermind countries, mdk has taken several horses to cape and back to gauteng and they have been successful in both centres ...its great to see bass and marshall going to gauteng for the season as it adds credibility to the group races and it doesnt become a regional affair...unfortunately natal hasnt got the firepower to compete in gauteng on a regular basis...fire arch free my heart and the germiston november winner trained by ramsden and ridden by schlecter are proof that cape can raid gauteng with success

Pirates: we race horses to prove which one is the best and to find out whose opinion is correct, so I love it that you are an Igugu fan. Hey, I am an Igugu fan. I think she's a terrific filly.

In my opinion it might be well worth it in the long term for EF to have a really quiet 3 year old campaign.
Remember zenyatta only started racing at end of her 3 year old season and we have seen how mother russia and river jetez have improved with age.
I believe there's no point in rushing a horses career just for the sake of it.
Remember what happened to mother russia last year after a tough joburg campaign, she went completely off the boil for the durban season.
I believe its really tough to have these horses on the go for the cape town, joburg and durban feature season.
For me the cape town and durban season is infinitely better than the joburg season and I would be happy to give it a miss...

To me, Barry's plan makes perfect sense. There is a definite plan and a big goal for January. This is a star 3yo filly and how she is handled will make all the difference, come the big one. Why up at altitude, to score some browny points ? The contest might still come, in its time. I look forward to the possibility, with relish ! Team Valor have won many Group or Graded races. Barry's planning is obviously why they do so well.
My very best wishes to the team, with this super filly !

Dancer's Daughter didn't injure herself in the race, but the race took a lot out of her. She was apparently still blowing and puffing and huffing some time after the race.
