Watched an interview with Walter Swinburn the other day and he said Shergar ran the same way destroyed his rivals early in the race by going a fast gallop...

Ps Frankel has been ruled out of the Derby, Henry Cecil told the Daily Mail:

"I think the Derby would not be doing the right thing.

"I'd want to give him a race before Epsom over a bit further but I can't do that.

"Frankel is very well, but we will take it step by step.

"You have to think of the horse and we don't want to be experimenting with him.

"At the moment, he is telling me not to go a mile and a half and the Prince (Khalid Abdullah, owner) agrees.

"All being well, we'll go to Ascot and then go from there."

Henry Cecil is the only trainer in living memory to have won the Derby from the front and he has done it twice, with Referene Point and Slip Anchor

Frankel ran the first 5f in just under 57 seconds into a headwind... He would have also won the palace house stakes(sprint) on the card

I believe Frankel should definitely NOT run in the Derby. I believe Cecil and Co. made the absolutely right choice! Imo you can only do damage by stretching a colt to run over a distance he has not run before, especially showing blistering speed.
There are BIG mile races to be considered in the UK and around the world for the boy and he will be hard to beat especially since he needs some maturing still. Later as a 4 year old (if he stays in training that long) he can perhaps stretch out?

We had a Raise a Man gelding a long time ago. He was bread to sprint and indeed he was nice and fast. Suddenly he was nominated for the Turffontein Classic to be run over 1800m!!!!!!!! Some reporter for some rag said that he had more chance of winning Wimbledon if given a tennis racket......He duly ran stone last. Kept to sprinting after that he won another race or two but was never, ever the same animal, for me his heart was destroyed.

He landed up running in Bloem and finally ended up on Mauritius.....................................nuff said

It turned out our horse was entered into the Classic as a pacemaker for another from the stable.....that one ran a promising 4th behind National Emblem.

fckukers!!!!!

Stick to what you know Frankel my boy, stick to what you know!!!!

I guess that's where the real money is Dave, especially with the Prince being an avid breeder?

Sure the derby is a tough race but I don't believe running in the derby should be detrimental to the horses well being.

Recently Sea the stars and Workforce won the derby and then went onto win the Arc later in the year.

I believe the Derby is a great test of the breed and Frankel would lose nothing if defeated. I would say a good performance would only increase his worth as all the doubters are adamant he won't stay..

Tommy I don't think your experience applies to frankel at all. Frankel looks like he's tough as nails and certainly doesn't need to be wrapped up in cotton wool.

The derby and the arc are the 2 biggest races on the calender, I think it would be great to see if he can stay further than he has tried.

Racing is all about taking chances so I would have run him.
