At first glance the would seem to be a trend (there has always been, I guess) and Gav stable is the one that springs to mind.

Remember that it is the bookies that price up horses depending on form, breeding and trainer/jock preferences. that does not mean that a 20/1 or 50/1 has no chance. Most owners like to have a small bet on their horses irrespective of the price offered.
It would have had to be only a R200.00 bet to claim the horse in question from 50/1.

2 year olds always make a fool of the best tipsters and trainers for that matter.

Did a brief survey of this on Jhb racing/trainers for the purpose of 'better betting'.

As ever personal preference applies - are you looking for the 2/1 winner or 10/1 placer?

Some trainers have clearer patterns of the placer out performing the more fancied runner and there are 'hints' of this applying under certain circumstances,ie jockey engagements and returns from lay-off. Other trainers are more predictable insofar the 'most fancied' outperformers the 'less fancied' over 80% of the time.

Have yet to find a 'frequency' that throws a profit, still looking its on the list!

Please pass a comment onto those so-called "Punters" who have their heads so far up their arses they can't think logically!! The reason that "trainers wit 2horses lesser fancied wins especially gav smit ,bass,even de kok ,irish maid , storm crossing,i include all coplings in jptj April 16, 2011 09:28PM" is because in the bigger yards with many horses you have many owners all wanting their horses to run, run, and win, win, and so the trainer runs multiple horses (because he has no other option) and the horse that gets the best run, or the best ride of the day, will win.

In the end-of-the-road centres you also find all the "problem horses", and should one of these problem horses feel good on the day, they could, and do, give of their best, and trounce their better fancied stable mates! If the so-called punters knew anything about horses (which are animals, ....not machines) they would understand this?? Do they?? Blinkers off, ....lateral thinking!!

Not the owners, nor any punter, will force the trainer to "pull" the "lesser fancied" runner, because the public believe they know the winner! Not all trainers, especially the top trainers, are in racing for the money, ...it's winners that count, and every horse out of their yard goes out trying! Is that too hard to accept?? Well, they had better learn to accept it, and get over themselves, ......or continue losing!!

I would have made the point along the same lines and this is why as I have stated in a previous post, I enjoy the jackpot pet in its current format so much!
Good stables or top stables will have horses who have more or less the same ability and then as Charles points out small differences could see signifant changes in the final outcome between stable runners.

With the Bass stable for instance...try and choose a winner bewteen Blue Tiger, Gaultier and Rushing Wind over the sprint distances irrespective of their SP and see how many times you end up with egg all over you face!

Animals..flesh and blood, temperaments, jockeys making split decisions etc. etc... and that's why I love the game...Even the "put your house on..it will not lose horse" have lost many many times.

you absolutely cannot compare de kock or mike bass (who is absolutely above every doubt and very transparent as far as this is possible) with "agent smith", who has a lot of doubtful winners, also Peter Miller in Kimberley, but this sand horses are running absolutely unpredictable, and personally in interviews, he seems at least honourable.

it is very easy to raise doubts, just follow very very carefully trainers advices (i include here the "stable jockey choice", which of course has a lot do with the trainers opinion) and you will see. i'll bring here a statistic about this soon, if someone is interested

My opinion is this one, get on with it,it`s always going to happen in stables with a big string..
