July Betting

Igugu 4/1 but the horse is not even nominated for the July?Surely betting should be on the horses nominated at this stage ? If the horse never get nominated will the bookies refund all bets as the horse was never in it surely not the same as a horse that dont get in or are withdrawn?how many of the mass market are aware of the fact that the horse is not nominated an trying to get on early unaware that they might be doing their money ?Just another way to chase away those small punters from racing

But thats Antepost Nick your risking doing your money for the chance of getting a better price now, although in the case you mention above 4/1 seems a little bit skinny..

ps have you noticed Hollywood are betting on the nominated horses atm?

The bookies that have betting eg Dancewithedevil 10/1 and I would guess that when MDK nominates that Igugu will come in at 4/1, if Igugu not nominated then 10/1 would be a good price on Dancewiththedevil........................imo

I think bookmakers are breaking the law by including Igugu into the betting. The nominations are out. Igugu is not in them. Mike De Kock has said publicly he is unsure whether she will be nominated at a later stage.
By including an un-nominated horse into the betting they are setting a dangerous precedent. Whats to stop them from doing this every year and adding in 4 or 5 horses that MIGHT be nominated. The idea that a punter might back a horse and lose his money because the horse doesn't even get nominated is WRONG.
These are the types of issues that need to be protested.

I have to disagree Ruffian, I am a big fan of early and ante-post markets.

If I wish to have a bet on Big Bucks now to win the World Hurdle at Cheltenham "next March" 2012, I can have 12/10 and if it runs should be 5/10. When do you think the nominations are? Will it run, will the horse still be in training?

If you don't want to play Igugu don't play, if you think there is more value on Dancewiththedevil at 12/1 have a bet, because without Igugu it will be much shorter, if Igugu runs will be 2/1, so take 5/1 now? Its your choice.

In fact I an fed up that we don't have a show for the 30th, on Champion Challenge, Derby, Oaks, Computerform with just over a week to go! At least the JULY generates this hype and interest and if the lads up North want to get the same advanced interest, I would suggest they do the same

good punting!

Sure Dave - if the bookmakers want to price up on the Cheltenam 2012 now BEFORE the nominations then fine. All the horses will be un-nominated and the bookmakers will be putting their balls on the line. It will be a clear case for the man in the street to understand.
But they didn't mark up for the July before the nominations. They waited for the first nominations and then included a horse that might not be nominated as favourite. There is a big difference. Don't you think that there may be some people who assume she is nominated ?
If they had marked up for the July six months ago then I can understand. But surely you can't be suggesting punters take bets anywhere else but Hollywood ? (who are offering first nomination finisher)

In fact - here's a challenge. If bookmakers think that what they are doing is ethical then mark up IGUGU VS THE FIELD in a matchbet. You can markup to 110%. Cmon chaps - 1/5 The Field 4/1 Igugu. Please - I dare you.
In fact - do matchbets - Igugu versus each horse. Please. Pretty please ?
The bottom line is they won't do that, because she isn't nominated and might not run. The idea of them doing money in cold blood doesn't appeal. Punters on the other hand...

Ruffian have to agree with you re: Hollywood they always consider the punter (tu)

What is your take on the 30th

I had a look at the entries for Champions Challenge Igugu, plus the Oaks Igugu, I am sure she is going for the Oaks so why is she not scratched from the Challenge?

So if the bookies had her priced up for the Challenge after noms would that be fair?
