Anton Marcus
14 years 1 month ago
Hello Everyone
I was at Greyville yesterday and after the winning the first race, Anton Marcus stood down from the rest of the meeting due to him being sick. My question is. Is he allowed to ride today in Champions Day. Is there not a 48 hour rule that applies to jockeys that state they cannot ride if they setp down due to being unwell.
Your comments would be most welcome
Cheers

can only think he seeked permission from the connections to miss his rides and wasn`t actually stood down?

I believe he will be examined by the Turffontein course medical officer this morning, who if satisfied with Anton's condition will clear him to ride today.

The 48 hour rule is subject to the discretion of the stipes and the doctor. It's aim is 1) to prevent jockeys abusing the booked off rule as in the case where they decide they have no chance of further winners on a day so get booked off and 2) so a doctor can enforce a 48 hour layoff in the case where a rider has fallen off or been injured. Marcus will simply need to be given the all clear by the doctor today, although that's not a given as he was apparently very sick last night.

"except with the permission of the SB" - I would guess SB stands for stipes board?
There was announcement last night from Vee Moodley that Anton had got permission from the SB to ride

I cannot believe this is happening.
Anton is supposed to ride a horse in a Grade 2 for Team Valor today.
Also running today in France in a Group 3 is another of our horses named Brigantin, whose young rider Charles-Pierre Boudot was thrown from a horse earlier in the week and taken to hospital, is perfectly fine, but because of the rules, we had to replace him.
Twice in one week?
And we are supposed to be The Chosen people?
Chosen for what...lesser jockeys?
As my daughter has been telling me since birth, it just isn't fair Dad!

Yes Magic, also heard that and thought it was harsh. To me Anton is the ultimate proffessional. Saw him giving the assistant "gears" @ Scotsville last week when his ride was scratched after refusing to load.

Although he probably half expected that to happen, because the filly did the same thing at the Vaal the first time they tried racing her. I think Tshwaro Appie rode her that day, it definitely wasn't Anton.
