Scotia after Champions day and 2000 gns
14 years 1 month ago
Good morning to the Clan, have put a few photos on the site from our superb day at the big T and must say its been a long time since I have seen such a big crowd at the big T and well done to the organisers.
Its always great to see great horses and Igugu and Val De Ra played their parts, it was an emotional win by Happy Landing and to hear Joey Soma and Muzi Yeni would bring tears to a glass eye, well done guys.
Happy Landing.
In addition we had the 2000gns and my only winner on the day, and What a Winner (pity it was not What a Winter), its not every day you see a horse winning the mile in such a superb show of speed and the initial reaction was for the bookies to go 2/1 for the Derby, but now the euphoria has settled I see Sprortingbet and Victor Chandler have gone 7/2 and as you are aware I have been pushing the Clan to take 6/1, however in the manner it won, I have to have my doubts that it would be an automatic Derby winner? He is entered for the Dante and many other options, I suggest you dont back for the Derby.
scotia does not fancy for the Derby
Royal Ascot has the 5 day festival from 14th to 18th of June with the highlights being King Stand (Overdose) Queen Anne (Canford Cliffs) St James Palace(Frankel)? Prince of Wales (Dick Turpin, So You Think, Twice Over) Gold Cup (Rite of Passage, Fame and Glory) Coronation Golden Jubilee (Rocket Man) but at this stage much speculation but would certainly be a meeting not to be missed,
We also have some good racing over the jumps from Punchestown in Ireland from the 3rd to the 6th of May where Champion Chase (Sizing Europe,Big Zeb) Gold Cup (Guinness) where we will find out if Kauto Star 13/10 can still produce some magic? Champion Hurdle ( Hurricane Fly 8/10).
After the win by Blue Bunting in the 1000 gns we now have a 3/1 fav for the Oaks.
Canford Cliffs next run could be the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on the 14th May (evens)
I still fancy a bit of 5/1 Uncle Mo to win the Kentucky Derby aftter a good workout.
River Jetez looked like a difficult ride in the QE11 cup for Bernard, however SA connections Millard/Whyte were still responsible for Ambitious Dragons good win.
Back to our local racing and what are your thoughts on the July betting now? I have had my early say on Igugu, I see we also have 3/1 being quoted for MDK winning the July. I just love the speculation, it gives such a magic touch to the July.
I am posting this from the car but glad to say Mrs S is driving, the sun is just coming up for another great day in Africa
Good punting and may your God be with you

Well if we consider 20/1 on offer for the Derby and 1/3 for the St James Palace, would guess no Derby for Frankel.

Kauto is 11/10 for Gold Cup today, would be a 15 time grade one winner if he shows some old sparkle (tu)
