Job description
An opportunity for an experienced Horse Racing Reporter exists within our Editorial Department, reporting to the News Editor of The Citizen newspaper.

Purpose of the job:

To cover horse racing events assigned by the News Editor and to write accurate and well-written events for daily publication.

Main Responsibilities:

• Production of accurate and well-written copy
• Gathering of horse racing news from a variety of reliable sources
• Generation of ideas and proposals for new stories
• Covering important events/issues timeously
• Establishing a network of contacts
• Ability to work overtime and on weekends

Preference will be given to individuals who will add to the diversity of the organization.

Requirements
• Extensive knowledge of horse racing
• Talent for writing coupled with a keen news sense.
• Keen interest in reading newspapers
• Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Journalism

Advantageous
• MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook
• Communication skills
• Relationship-building skills
• People skills
Grade 12/Std 10 Certificate
• Valid driver's license a must
• Own vehicle a must
Personal Skills/Attributes
• Ability to work accurately
• Ability to work under pressure
• Deadline driven
• High degree of professional Journalistic conduct
• Ability to work both independently and in a team

A degree or diploma is a "must" but Standard 10 is only "advantageous"?

In SA we have historical issues with studies where persons were not able to complete Grade 12 but have at a later stage thru work experience been entitled to study for diploma' or Degrees.

Maybe what was meant above.
