Shark Attack Update/Michelle Moon accident

Glad to report that Shark Attack will make his appearance at Clairwood on Sunday 22 May….

Some of the guests that will attend the races on Sunday are Dr Louis Luyt, Singer and Song writer, Dennis East, Isidingo Actor, Emmanuel Castis, Miss Earth 2009, Cherise Biagio and some Sharks players….

Its been a great effort in bringing so many new people to the races – people that have never been involved in racing before! I also just want you to see what the trust is doing and how important the trust is to people who have been injured in horse related accidents. It is important that the fundraising endeavours continue and that they need to constantly have exposure so that they can be supported to help others…

Here are a few picture of Shark Attack

Here is a copy of the syndicate letter

Dear Syndicate

We are launching Shark Attack to the public on Saturday 21 May 2011, at the Mr Price / Kingspark Stadium. The launch will take place just before the Sharks vs Bulls Game at 7pm.

The launch will be on the big screen at the stadium, so please try to be at the rugby on Saturday and support our team!

On Sunday, 22 May 2011, Shark Attack will make his debut at Clairwood Race Course. He is running in RACE 1, which start at 11h45 sharp. For those who cannot be at the races, you will be able to follow the races on Tellytrack, DSTV Channel 232. It will be great if you could support your horse at the races on Sunday. It is a family affair so bring along your family and kids. A buffet lunch will be served at the Panoramique Room on level 2 at Clairwood Race Course at a cost of R90.00 per person. I have reserved tables under the name :The Shark Attack Syndicate. Kindly call the Panoramique Room on 031-4691011 to book your lunch tickets. They will direct you to the Shark Attack Syndicate tables.

I hope to see you there as this is going to be a very special day – a day that we have all waited for a very long time. The Sharks players and their families have all been invited to attend the races and I hope that they will be able to come and support their horse…

I look forward seeing you at the races on Sunday and please do not hesitate to contact me should you need more information.

Kind regards

Ricky

Footnote!

I would also like to add this story in connection with Michelle Moon, who Ricky/foundation is also going to help.

I have extracted the following:

Brief description of what happened. On our way back from an outride we decided to jump two new little jumps on the way back to the stables. As I cleared the first jump Matador tried to gallop (home I assumed) as I held him in he started bucking (a buck I have sat many, many times) except he did not stop this time. My head hit what I think was a branch and knocked my hat forward and I could not see I started to slide over this right side and then next thing I knew my back hit a tree and I hit the ground. I immediately knew I had broken my back because I could not feel my legs.

Hospital and Medical history and information:

Constantiaberg Medi Clinic

216 Burnam road, Plumstead Cape Town (2 weeks in ICU)

And: UCT Private Academic Hospital

Anzio Road, Cape Town (8 weeks in spinal unit)

Where she is now:

I am home in Tokai, my folks are currently living with us to help me and take care of my boys.

Name and contact details of Doctors

Dr Zane Domingo, Constantiaberg Medi Clinic 021 799 2608/2190

Dr Ed Balbergen, UCT Academic 021 442 1865

Extent of Injuries and prognosis: I broke L1 and have been diagnosed as a T12 Complete Paraplegic

Exactly what she needs from us, i.e medical equipment to help in her rehab programme, financial assistance due to shortfall of medical aid etc. etc.

Any financial assistance would be wonderful, I have not wanted to face the financial side of this tragedy but the bills are adding up. We have had to rip out or whole bathroom because I could not get to the loo or shower. We had to trade in my car, paying in to get an automatic which we have to get fitted with hand controls so I can drive again. We have already bought the Winks Green Transeva from Natal (it stimulates nerve conduction) I am looking to buy a static bicycle and an inversion table (I have one on loan at the moment and it is incredible for the pain!) And yes, the medical aid does not cover any of it and we are about to run out of savings for the conventional stuff anyway. We are going to have to get an au-pair or nanny because I can’t do the basics for my 2 year old because I can’t reach him to change his nappy, bath him or put him to bed. We have been funding everything by taking money out of our mortgage and just doing whatever needs to be done.

Wow this sounds like a sob story, which is why I have been putting off writing this mail. On the positive side there is a new Stem Cell technology that is cutting edge and available in South Africa (on a named patient basis) as of last week. They want to take my case on at cost while my injury is so new and I have to try everything so..... I have all the information if you would like to see it.

Photo: I have attached a photo taken on one of our outrides. I sit here smiling as I remember trying to get two horses to keep still long enough to take a photo of the view from Chart Farm, with hillarious results.. Can't wait to ride again!

Thank you for your consideration.

Michelle Moon

Well done to Ricky and the Foundation for starting to try and make a difference to a shattered life, I am sure Ricky will post some details on where we can help for this good cause
