Vaal 30/06/2011
Delpech end the month with a winner at the Vaal and adds another one to his tally. His lead now is five over Marcus who has had the week off.
Delpech - 1
Jockey Log
Delpech = 188
Marcus = 183
Lead = 5
Saturday is the one that counts. Who will reign supreme on July day. Will it be Marcus or Delpech. Will Igugu win for Delpech or will Marcus blow them away with Bravura and make it five July winners. All I can say is, we have an exciting days racing with some super horses lined up.
May the best man and best horses come home smoking
Cheers till Saturday

It could be inevitable that Marcus will win the SA Champion Jockey title this year. Lets call it destiny. If he remains fit and has the requisite number of rides ,versus Delpech rides, he will win by lengths going away.
One needn't look further than his stirke rate to make this determination. Marcus has the luxury of wnning more than1 in 4 starts whereas Delpech does slightly better than 1 in 5.
The question is does Marcus really want to win? And in an effort to do so, will he also travel to PE and KIM to seal the deal?
IMO he might have to and this is why...
Based on the annual stats to date: Marcus approx. 15 rides per week - Delpech approx. rides 21 per week.
There are nine weeks left till the end of season (rounded up). Approximating the current trend - Marcus will have another 135 rides for 27 wins vs Delpech another 189 rides for 39 wins. But if Marcus can manage to increase his historical rides-to-week-ratio to coincide with Delpech's rides, say 189, he will return 51 winners and is so doing will top the log by 8 wins.
Perhaps there are clan members that can shed light on Marcus's intentions. i.e Is he having a crack at winning the championship?
IMO if Marcus and/or his agent make riding arrangements at the same meetings that Delpech competes in and/or manage a similar number of rides, then Marcus is a penalty kick (in front of the posts) to win the championship and any offer of odds on him is tantamount to a gift from bookmakers.
or is there such a thing.....?

Turffontein 03/07/2011
10 Days ago Delpech had a lead of 12. As of today, the lead has been cut to 2. Marcus has three winners to Delpech's one. With the championship so close, will both Marcus and Delpech start riding at PE and Kimberley to win this. The next week will tell which way the title is going. Delpech is carded to ride in PE tomorrow.
Today
Delpech - 1
Marcus - 3
Jockey Log
Delpech = 190
Marcus = 188
Lead = 2

This is a marketing dream..Phumelela wake up ...spend some money to put this on the front and back page, of the Citizen, Star and other newspapers.
A promotion and exposure like this will surely increase turnover and income.
"Championship jockey race....who will eventually win it" Two of South Africa's top jockeys, have pulled away from the rest in a of the field to make for a very interesting and challenging duel, as to who wins this years Champion Title.
Something like this will give racing the much needed exposure, it requires.
Probably a bookies nightmare, with both old and new punters backing either of the two jockey's.
The question that begs answering, is do bookies/P have a vested interest, in keeping the general racing public in the dark?
