Bookmakers licence required...........HELP!
14 years 2 weeks ago
Bookmakers licence required.
I have been approached by a couple of gentleman via the site enquiring about obtaining a bookmakers licence in the Joburg/Pretoria area.
I have tried to make a couple of enquiries to establish if anything is available and the cost and have been given some "heavy" numbers.
If you have one for sale or could give the gents a contact number or email address, please send to me at thescotts1@telkomsa.net to pass on

@SCOTIA:
Ask them to get a BEE partner and apply directly to the Gauteng Gambling Board.

The reason I mentioned this is since the asking prices are 'heavy', this way, they can get it 'unheavy'!
Was just a suggestion under the circumstances.... not plugging / endorsing BEE!

Dave,I am in the throes of seeking a licence for myself so will feedback any facts of interest. So far it appears that a mere licence is in fact cheap, but it is the rights &/or goodwill that can be expensive ie. a simple licence giving you the right to lay on Interbet is a lot cheaper than trying to buy Lance Michael's business, for instance.
The intentions will determine the cost.A bit like buying a boat.......do you need a canoe or a cruise liner?

A RARE offshore gaming licence in Gibraltar has been put up for sale with a price tag of up to £30m.
Simon Bold, the offshore bookmaker, is seeking a buyer or strategic partner for the Gibraltar-based business he owns. The sale - which is being conducted by KPMG - is an opportunity to acquire a Gibraltar offshore bookmaking licence, and observers believe that the business, Simon Bold Gibraltar, could be sold for up to £30m.
Bold hopes to find a strategic partner for the business, but it is understood that KPMG, which is advising the firm and organising the sale, has told bidders that the company would consider an outright offer. Bold said: "I would like to have an involvement in any new structure and continue to run the business for the long term."
In the last nine months the internet and telephone bookmaker turned over £6m although it is believed to have made a trading loss. It is however the Gibraltar licence that makes the business so valuable.
Internet and telephone bookmakers are increasingly setting up offshore, allowing them to offer customers tax-free betting. UK bookmakers have to impose a 9 per cent tax on punters, part of which is paid to the Government and part to the racing industry.
Imagine what they would want if the business had shown a profit??????.........

No sweat CM,interesting anyway!..... but 2 questions spring to mind
a)what affect do you think the exchanges have had on the value of international type bookmakers(probably for Hibs)
b) what affect the introduction of exchanges in SA would have on local bookmakers ?
The reason I ask is I am getting a bit tired of waiting for SA to licence exchanges(I am sure it is when, rather than if) and there is not enough liquidity in respect of SA racing on Betfair, but how much is a licence worth with exchanges being inevitable, sooner or later?
