Wow time flies. Still remember in that opening match the Bafana winger smashing the ball into the Mexican net for a stunning goal.

And the debt this country is in, the world cup was not worth a cent spent imo... We in for a rough ride, money should of been used to create employment, service delivery and uplift the poor .... The masses are going to turn on this government sooner than you think.....

Lisetning to SAFM and reading SAFM's Facebook site, there is a lot of talk about the short lived joy of reconciliation which has also moved on to the fact that we as a nation cannot sing our anthem front to back.
100% Greg - We all need to be mindful of the "ticking time bomb" as Vavi put it, not only government - 25% of the nation sits jobless, there is a large portion that lives in squalor yet there are no iniciatives that I am aware of, that employs the down trodden to build their own communities and services. To much tendepreneurial profit taking on the backs of the poor. Properly managed we should be able to build 3 times as many homes in half the time and cost. I have a pretty radical "part" model on housing.
Our democracy and social being as a nation is being held back by the lack of meaningful progress on issues of the poor!

In 1992 the city of Barcelona hosted the Olympics. They are still in debt
In 1996 the city of Atlanta hosted the Olympics. They are still in debt
In 2004 Athens hosted the the Olympics. They are still in debt and the stadiums are derelict.
Only Sydney in the so called ultra modern era have made a success financially out of hosting the Olympics
The West Indies are still in kak re the 2007 cricket world Cup
No doubt plenty of countries that have hosted the football world cup are still suffering financially. London will suffer after next years Olympics as well.
