Big City Life - Put Down

What a sad day for the connections. Big City Life was put down just after the finish line. Last week it was Goat and now this. Sad indeed. He finished sixth in the race.

Very sad especially when it is a very good and brave horse like him. I hear the Sunday Tribune has a front page photo of him lying dead on the grass after he was put down. All I can say is the editor is sick. It happens but do they expect young kids and sensitive people not to see it and be traumatized by the photo.

I think a phone call to tell him(or her) what I think of them is in order.

To Glen and Deacon. My heartfelt sympathies to you. He was a true gladiator in the ring. July 2009 was the most exciting finish to the race I've ever seen. With Glen Kotzen commenting with tears in his eyes that " every trainer has his turn and today its my turn". I remember Raymond Deacon with his fists in the air and on his knees saluting the fans in the stand. I thank you Big City Life for giving us racing enthusiasts the opportunity for experiencing the raw emotions of that day. RIP

Very sad. I was talking to Glen Kotzen about him just a few days earlier at the sales. He was looking forward to BCL's stud career and said that he was at least assured of getting all of Glen and family's mares.
As for the newspaper angle, I remember one of the Sunday papers (it might also have been the Tribune) going into graphic and unnecessary detail after Rabiya broke down in the 2005 July. This is really not on, and I agree that a complaint is in order.
