MERIT RATING APPEAL

I read in Sporting Post that Queen's Command appeal has been overruled. This is very harsh as this horse beat a MR 82 by 3.25 lenghts. She already raced off a MR 88 and is now suddenly a MR 96! - 8 points swing lol! She gave weight to most of the field and I would like to know who was the so-called line horse. This is how we stop our horses from being competitive! A panel (most not NHRA employees) overrulled the appeal - does this panel have a clue what they are doing? Time for some other system for appeals...

I do my own ratings and rated that run at 95 (95,3 to be exact) by averaging 2 line horses.(not that anybody cares)::o

QC got the maximum penalty for a handicap win which is 8p. Taking this cap into account she could actually be "well-in" if her next start is in another handicap! (that is if the handicapper rated her higher than a 96)

The line horse was obviously Miss Maddie, whom she beat by 4,85 lengths as the second and third horses recieved one point and two point raises respectively.

Still - very harsh! Even if the rulebook say 8 points maximum it is only a guide and circumstances, opposition etc. needs to be taken into account.

Actually, I find that interesting. As a member of the panel who heard the appeal I don't think it's right for me to say much more, but an independent verification is always welcome. 95 or 96, not a huge difference. I wish I could explain our reasoning, but I suppose I'd better not (even if it isn't exactly state secrets that we're talking about here).

Magic,my 95 .....I would have happily accepted 96 and certainly not have upheld the appeal.
I must admit that I cannot buy the "official"98 though,
