PHUMELELA MEDIA RELEASE
SUBJECT: Recall Security Mile tops RA Festival of Racing
DATE: Tuesday 23 August 2011
RELEASED BY: Phumelela Gaming And Leisure Limited
THE Racing Association’s Festival of Racing in Kimberley next week will feature two exciting days of racing on Monday 29 and Wednesday 31 August, when the region’s richest race, the R200,000 Recall Security Mile, tops the programme.
A strong entry has been received for the Mile with the nominations including last year’s Emerald Cup winner Iron Curtain. The six-year-old Fort Wood gelding has only run four times since posting that head success over Alimony in Africa’s richest race on the sand and needed his last run, when fifth behind Bouquet-Garni over 1450m.
He is drawn wide and with next month’s Emerald Cup probably his main target, he is unlikely to be 100% ready for this engagement.
Another highly rated horse, Eye Of The World, is also in the entry. This Kimberley-based runner has won seven races and last time out finished a 2.25-length second to African Vision over 1800m at Flamingo Park. He meets his conqueror on 1kg better terms and will finish closer, although he might be better over a slightly longer trip. African Vision, on the other hand, will relish the journey, but it must be noted that both are drawn wide.
Sean Miller and Martin Cohen-trained African Vision races in the silks of leading owners Markus and Ingrid Jooste, who could have another string to their bow in Elusive River, who rarely finishes far back and went down 2.75 lengths to Across The Ice over 1400m at Greyville last month.
The Joostes could also be represented by Sir Lowry, who they own in partnership. Markus Jooste’s personal silks may be seen to advantage on well above-average Petrus, who has been beaten just once in eight career starts.
The R135,000 Betting World Sprint over 1000m is the other big race on next Wednesday’s 10-race card.
The annual Festival of Racing kicks off with a 10-race programme on Monday. Racing fans who decide to take a break to Kimberley for the three days will be treated to a tour of Kimberley’s Big Hole and a visit to Mauritzfontein Stud with an exclusive viewing of Fort Wood on Tuesday, as well as a cocktail party that evening.
For more details, call Merle Parker on (011) 683-3220.

@ Rob
in the 1600m 4 out of 13 are visitors and in the 1000m 8 out of 14..which equates to 12 out of the 27 runners are visiting trainers.

I think word Festival misunderstood in Kimberley. What they are really having is a fete or a Basaar.
Planning a Boerewors roll stand, Tombola, Jumping Castles and all.
