I didn't hear the interviews this afternoon, but the re-runs were on in the background and I have just heard the trainers interview after Shipwrecks win...............................................He explained that ,among other things "in his last run he was not given a punishing ride"
In that race he ran to a 77............... and 4 days later to no less than a conservative 97 (ie.10 lengths the difference)
You be the Judge!

Many people who don't play horses believe it is corrupt. A sudden improvement like the one Rob describes just reinforces their beliefs. Result, less potential new players stay clear of horse racing. Personally I do not play the smaller centres because this kind of thing seems to happen more often at them. Nowadays I only play Turfies, Clairwood, Greyville, VaalTurf, Kenilworth & Durbanville with good going only and since then my results are more consistant and more profitable. I also enjoy the days off when there is racing at the smaller centres to go over my results and look for areas where I can improve.

Because you never get bizarre results in plate races at Clairwood or Greyville....?? Lol.
Actually, I've had plenty of success tipping winners of set weights or conditions races in PE. You get the exceptions, and I can't explain Shipwreck winning any better than you can except to point out that he has always been inconsistent (even when trained in KZN), but a lot of PE set weights races go the way of the "right" horse in my experience. Just in recent times we've seen the likes of Hear The Drums, Celtic Fire, Thunder Key and others regularly win exactly this kind of race when they were well in, and that's just to name some of the more high profile examples.

Magic, lately I've only been handicapping races where all horses have run at least three races so that I have some form to work with. That excludes most plate races, and hence less nasty surprises.

My point is that this stable has done it twice in a week.......only 7 days earlier a 3yr old maiden KING OF FLAGS ,rated 78 started short priced fav.@ 18/10 (7/2 bar 1 and 10/1 bar 2) and finished over 10 lengths behind winner (Strange riding strategy which I would guess was to instructions?) and to +- 52 rating.
Only 3 days later it wins in a canter running to at least the 78 (and probably more) @ 6/1.
I will be interested in the stipes reports on both races!
It may well be coincidence but the regulators should at least enquire.

Why dont we start reporting dodgy form reversals and under performing runs to the NHRA,there are rules there to be adhered to..i can send the emails but someone would have to provide the information..
