That is the point UD.I am not suggesting that all of the bad practices are dishonest, but mainly unprofessional.Very often ,when meetings are close together ,horses that are short of work,or a run can be sharpened up in the first ,to improve in the next. The punter, however is entitled to expect that every endeavour is made to ensure horses are raced on merit every run(ie.as close to its ability rating as is humanly possible),and is totally reliant on the NHA to regulate accordingly.
Equally if a horse is rated to win a plated race and is produced 75% fit &/or unsound, that is as good as pulling the horse up,although not perceived as such.
Racing needs as much regulation as possible to ensure a product of integrity and I am sure that it is not a coincidence that wherever regulation is draconian, racing appears to be thriving.
Surely there is a message in that?
(BTW I am also not so naive to believe that, with the amount of money on offer,a little deceptive manipulation doesn't happen as well- look what has happened to soccer ,cricket tennis etc.since sports betting became popular)

It's the journos (press) that control racing.....yikes!!!!!!
If they published even 1-tenth of what we don't read in the papers but here on this forum, there would be so much more education and transparency.

Rob what are your thoughts on horse weights being printed/announced and barrier trials for rested horses?

Mr H IMO every bit of information which allows a more informed opinion of ability &/or fitness will allow racing to be marketed as a "predictable gamble" which is the marketing angle that I believe will win the day for racing!
My concern is that false or inaccurate information is WORSE than NO information so I am cynical as to the efficacy of measurement &/or reporting, but in principle,GREAT.

yeah when i mentioned weights to a few trainers the first thing they told me was how easily THEY would be able to distort the info - just another reason why i'll never own another horse again!

yes please, bum chip the horses, with bluetooth/wifi connectors and weigh them and make this info available. Also have trainers reports daily. In the east they have webcams in horses' boxes so you can even see if it eats or not!

With all the racing we have, I suggest that punters make Kimberley Monday an "off day". The product is so poor I cannot understand.how anyone can partake.
