Taipan - Cape Derby Winner 2012B)

I watched this individual win on the 27th of Jan at Kenilworth, and my word was he impressive! I have not seen a young horse win in that style over that distance in quite some time. It reminded me of Irish Flame winning a 1600m race leading up to the Derby 2 years ago. Ease and grace!! Magic - your thoughts on Taipan??

He looks a nice prospect who obviously enjoyed going over ground. He's sure to win more races but the Derby is a huge leap. He might be that good, but it's too soon to tell.

morning Magic... who do you fancy at this stage?

I haven't given it much thought at all, to be honest. The last time I picked a Cape Derby winner even earlier than September was Western Rocket back in the year dot, and even I had a few bob on when he won the Derby (shock! horror!). I haven't seen much that grabs me as yet, but you might be onto something with Taipan. I do see a bit of Irish Flame potentially in him, although we must be careful of seeing things just because he's got the same trainer as Irish Flame had at the time of the Derby and is also by the same sire as IF.

Thanks Magic...yeah it is a bit early to tell, but I just had one of those moments hahaha.

this horse really moved up effortlessly. i reckon there must be a group win in him over 2000m
