Testing lab does well, in fact scores 100%

This was in the news a bit earlier than today, but I'm bringing it to the attention of the Clan because there has been so much negativity floating around recently about the "cleanness" of SA horse racing. Somehow this sort of news doesn't get much attention ... good news is no news, uh-huh?

I've been in the lab business myself and been many times through this sort of test by the accrediting association (though not in this specific field) and I can assure the Clan, one and all, that they are no walkover and getting 100% is well worth celebrating. Not only the physical facilities are checked, so are the staff, and you also have to do a series of "blind" tests, where they know in advance what result you should get. A 100% perfect score takes real expertise and in SA, where expertise is hard to come by, and even harder to keep, the NHA should also be congratulated on getting such a high-class team together in their lab.

"THE National Horseracing Authority has just been advised that, in the International Laboratory Proficiency Test conducted during 2011 by the Association of Official Racing Chemists, its Laboratory has again obtained a perfect score of 100%.

"The National Horseracing Authority’s Laboratory complies with the ISO/IEC 17025 which is the world standard for chemical and biological testing. In this regard, it is audited regularly by the South African National Accreditation System."

They should not be blowing their trumpets just yet, wait until they misplace or loose the 2nd sample, or all samples have the same positive results.Recent testing has uncovered a slew of local infringements, however the parties involved do not seem to have a care in the world.
