...'The licensing of betting
exchanges in South Africa would allow for new entry, but presumably there would not
be many betting exchanges seeking to be licensed. Betting exchanges are likely to
put pressure on existing forms of betting.'
MEANING Betfair+Phum? as sole operators?

I would think that interbet are already geared up for allowing subscribers to lay so I would expect them to be players + Betfair......"P" may have missed the boat?
I thought they should have applied for a "fixed price tote" ages ago and done a franchise deal with betfair, but I doubt Betfair need a partner now.

I did apply for that license but would have been a bit complicated each member/ punter would have to register as individual for license putting up cash with gambling board etc so I dropped the project

Well the review is certainly recommending it and in short ,the way I read it,is that the belief is,that South Africans WILL use exchanges and so they believe that it is better to regulate and earn from them.
I would suspect that the model Betfair will put on the table,as a starting point, will be similar to the one in Tasmania.I don't have any detail of that, but I am sure it will work here too.
I think that very early in their introduction,Betfair will be making their mark with big race sponsorship.
How long all this will take is anybody's guess!

Absolutely Blue....the ability to back and to lay just opens up a whole new world of punting.
It will be interesting to see how SA punters adapt because ,according to the Betfair guys, only about 10% of the players in UK actually lay.

If I look at the time allocated to each subject, this is just a verbal version/feedback of the written report. There would appear to be no time for public participation or debate.
If any aspects like Exchanges ,Regulation or Tote betting is debated in a Public Forum later,I will do my very utmost to be there.
