birth of foal

To witness the birth of a live foal is, to me, the most wonderful thing I have ever seen. I have assisted in the foaling of many mares in my time, each of these experiences unique in its own way. Like magic – for so many reasons I can’t explain. If you have never seen a mare foal in real life and would like to see this miracle please take a look at the YouTube insert attached. Klawervlei very kindly sent us a movie of their stakes winner of 4 races Miss Galilei (daughter of the world’s current best sire Galileo) giving birth to healthy big strong colt by Gr1 winning sprinter King's Apostle, son of 2010 European champion sire King’s Best.
Contemplate the mating that produced this foal. The mare Miss Galilei is a stakes winning daughter of Danehill mare Our Dizzy Raine. There is a whole lot going on in this pedigree – it’s loaded. King’s Best is out of the mare Allegretta (who is grandam of Galileo) making this colt inbred to King’s best and his three parts sister Urban Sea – the pair share Mr Prospector as grandsire. King's Apostle is line bred to the great mare Special 5 x 5 and this foal’s dam adds another line making Special appear 6x6x5, explosive stuff -- and there is lots more – The colt is linebred to Northern Dancer which gets balance from the fact that the maternal grandsire is sire phenomenon Danehill who is inbred to Northern Dancer and his half-sister Spring Adieu. But this is not the purpose of this newsletter – we want to take you to something even more wondrous.
At our stallion AGM’s a while ago we discussed new marketing techniques – mostly around using electronic media to take our stallions to people that don’t have the luxury of seeing these superb beasts and to familiarise them with the horses – what they look like, their racing, their families, their progeny etc etc. We decided to start at the cradle. One of our shareholders showed me how YouTube video clips can race around the world and be seen by hundreds of thousands in the space of a week on the internet. We decided to show a King's Apostle foal being born so when John Koster offered us this material we were over the moon – what a family. We hope that you enjoy the attached short clip as much as we did.
A less edited version is being posted on our website www.freemanstallion.co.za under King's Apostle’s profile.
We’ve had fantastic report of King's Apostle first crop being born this year and will share pics and comments with you as they come in. He has settled in well and is covering like a dream.
Obviously delighted that he is covering mares of this calibre. We want to share the dvd link with anyone that may be interested for two reasons:
1. We want to see how fast it gets around the world as a test of the power of YouTube linking
2. It’s such a beautiful and inspirational event for anyone to see.
All those bunny huggers that say that us racing folk don’t love our horses just have to see this and reconsider. We put more into the care of our animals than any other group of people that deal with animals in the world.
