It's probably the same anywhere on the planet Frodo, ladies day at Musselburgh, Melbourne Cup, the July, Met, people go for the vibe, and with a bit luck they enjoy the racing and come back again, then get involved betting, then maybe a share in a horse etc, etc, then they come on the forum and moan like shit ...........lol

The Real racing was at Churchill Downs..however Turfontein with Mark Haze was excellent!

I wish I could be as positive as the presenters were about Turfies on Sat.
There is a huge difference between people going racing and people going to a racecourse for a party.....The Met is a perfect example of a "great" day in a centre where racing has to be subsidised so racing as a product hasn't benefitted from those type of crowds.

What needs to be introduced on those days is SPONSORED competitions that are in the SAME FORMAT as our exotics......entry is free but people have to follow the racing,and the results,as punters do,so they experience the excitement that builds,leg by leg,and they are then sucked into the structure of exotic type bets....AND keep reminding them,as a marketing exercise,that they can have that same fun everyday,from home,by taking the same bet types ,on the tote,with even bigger returns!

Rob I would venture to say that 80% of people at Turfontein on Sat had no clue how to take a bet or what bets were available..but then who really cares my bud

Thats why you present them with free"bets" in that format......the point is create the interest in the format and some may then bother to find out......beats the shit out of Best Crappy Hat competitions, IMO.

Couldn't agree more - yes it's nice to say 'we stopped counting at 16900' - but it would have been better if they could add 'and because of our excellent marketing of the racing product we expect all of them back next week'

Good point Rob - Serious point no joke - Drug dealers often give potential addicts a couple of free hits to get them hooked - Gambling is an addiction and though unethical that is the way to create a good few addicts though i would hate to be the person that authorises it -
