Actually it's amazing how much hammering muscles can take if the guy has warning to tighten them. I remember doing a self-protection course with a really fit guy at work ... one of those kick-boxing/martial arts types. About 8 of us ladies went along ... he showed us how to hit so as to really hurt the hittee, then said, "Ok, now hit me in the stomach". So we all did (and I can hit hard ... I'm a big strong dame) ... one after the other ... and honestly none of us could make any impression whatsoever. Of course he knew what was coming and tensed up his stomach muscles.
