1.Depending on the presenter I do listen but no use when every time like Paul Lafferty tips top 3 in betting.
2.Info can be useful when first timers run more so with juvenile season coming up.
3.Canter past is of huge benefit. Make my final decisions on betting only after visuals of canter past. However, camera work differ from province to province. Would like to see improvement in KZN.Differ from Dave on Neil Pretorius as I think he tries too hard to sound clever.Respects Dave Mollets opinion.
4.No. Make own decisions and my motto : Never change your bets.
5.Post race interviews important but again presenters must ask right questions. Molly tops again. I dont wanna listen to Richard Fourie wishing everybody a happy birtday or see Mike Azzie crying. On other hand, only some trainers are prepared to give info on runners but by now we should no who to trust.(if any)
6.Molly,Deez and Grant I listen to.
Bob, maybe include under starters orders. Why cant we get opinions from jockeys, bookmakers and even handicappers.

1 - Not anymore. They are too repetitive and perform the same thing week in and week out. The need to mix it up is so important. The UK presenters are very good at this. I would suggest taking a feather out of their cap.
2 - 100%
3 - Yes, very important to see the runners go down, but imo the commentator should point out these facts for EACH horse as they go down. They are the ones who see the same horses more than anyone, and therefor they should have the best advice. Clyde Basel is very good at this, but the rest of the commentators simply call out the horses name, and jockey.....which if the punter was not half asleep would know anyway.
4 - Definitely NOT!
5 - I feel the post race interview is very important. 1, for hearing the trainers comments. MDK always gives very relevant info, and 2, yes the owner must have his couple minutes of glory....whether it's for his/her ego or not. I think it is important to honour the fact that the owners pay the bills and can have their say!
6 - Darryl Maree (when ever he gets the nod I think his analysis on many horses are far better than anyone else)

1 : Do punters actually listen to them?

I don't

2: Is it more important to get the opinions of trainers/ jockeys - in particular, around races 1 and 2, looking ahead?

yes

3: Is it more important to simply see the horses go to the start and punters form their own opinion on its gait/ sweating up/ striding out etc?

its hard to see all the horse from the tv screen properly, i think someone at the course should inform us

4: Do the punters take cognisance of PA/ P6/ Jackpot selections from the on-course presenters?

I don't

5: Are the post-race interviews important with the owners? Do these interviews provide any important information other than a boost to the owner's ego?

not for me

6: Which on-course presenters are rated above all others?

I know it is probably impractical (as there is usually a race from Ngong or some English backwater on at the time) but imo it would be useful if some comments were forthcoming from the presenter(s) on-course while the horses are cantering to the start - as UD says, watching them on the TV screen not the same as seeing them in the flesh - providing comments should be the main reason for on-course presenters - a joke every now and then is fine - but sometimes I get the impression that some of them only talk for the sake of talking - try and provide some information not generally known e.g. this horse has been nominated for a feature race, or this horse has been off the track because of a specific reason, etc.

Another comment - I don't want to see a panel of faces being interviewed around a coffee table. I want to see horses not the panel's faces, the TV can have the panel talking in the background while they show the horses.
