Sorry Soodum we kind of lost track of the topic. In my opinion there are many perfectly legitimate ways to buck the system, from running below par to reduce MR and weight and a host of others that we don't know about.
The authorities over there don't take nonsense from anyone by the looks of things so this could very well have been said in jest or have been misunderstood. (I have not seen the interview though.) I am sure the trainer would not risk the wrath of the authorities over there.

I have no qualms with the owners getting the 1st bite ,but pls remember that the barrier trials in australia is for the benefit of the betting public, when a trainer lumps a horse with weight to crook the clock as David Payne admitted to doing is he not cheating the betting public?
Len Salzman was legendary punter and chief patron of David Payne , David openly admitted to setting up horses for him, so in effect David Payne gave many jocks instructions to give a horse a "easy"in order to land a coup in a future race
My main question is how can we(me as a punter ) not come to the conclusion that racing is crooked ?
The nhra rules state that every horse in a race needs to be given every chance of running to the best of its ability(I may be wrong),so as a punter how do you justify that I must accept that some horse in a race are being "looked after",that info is not available to me ,racing is touted as the thinking mans game, more and more its becoming a lottery

I know what you mean. There are many ways to cheat.
I was just giving you an answer on the owner betting question.
I wonder if similar tactics would be used in SA if barrier trials were made compulsory.
As AL says there are many legit ways to buck the system.

@ al
If u believe David Payne said that in jest then u sorely mistaken..imo
He had a big reputation as a punting stable in sa,and what also irks me is his arrogance in saying that in oz there are maybe 5 tops jocks and the rest are rubbish,he also says there are serial dope offenders in oz , maybe he has forgotten his sa record,
This is not an attack on David Payne but a question into the auethencity in racing in general
I work for a big corporate ,luckily a friend recorded the interview and forwardred it to ppl who have had a inkling of getting involved as owners , that inkling has now died, the response is "why spend our hard earn money on a crooked sport"
My colleagues tell me to forward the interview to the oz racing authorities,I may well just do it tomorrow morning

There is not much different to shooting craps or rolling the dice when it comes to racing. Gambling is gambling no matter what form it takes, the house always wins in the end.
The challenge (addiction) is beating the odds. Racing is an intelligent bet and a lot of intelligent people are involved in it. Its the pushing (sometimes insulting) of that intelligence that keeps them coming back.
If you have mates that can find a trainer who will help them land big spoils, then they should go for it. The truth is this game makes fools of even the biggest experts in the game. In fact experts and race gambling should not appear in the same sentence. Whilst many a coup has been pulled off, just as many if not more have seen their backsides! Horse racing has that knack of being the great leveller.

once the racecard is out and the betting is out every person has the right to back any horse in the race...if you cannot afford owning horses then dont. leave it to the people who can...this school of thought that the owner has first bite is archaic to say the least and these type of owners last 5 minutes in the game...

Some friends and I were ready to get involved as owners,we were shot down by a seasoned owner who advised as that if its not a tax write off dnt ever get involved as a owner as we ll burn our fingers, despite every website we read of the nonsense that happens in racing we decided to take the dip and get involved, again the owner who got more than 50 in training told us to fcuk off from racing and rather look for a better investment
He was right as the 1st horse we bid on our competitor was the breeders son
The casino has just welcomed us back with a free vip wkend and many many more incentives that horse racing refuses to offer to lure future SOUTH AFRICAN owners

soodum if you enter horse ownership thinking its an investment then dont ,turn around and look elsewhere HOWEVER if you enter ownership to go visit your new addition to your family watch him work meet new people and enjoy the unequal thrill of hopefully leading him in one day then get involved...its a question of what you want out of ownership thats the key and DONT LET ANY BULLSHITING TRAINER OR BLOODSTOCK AGENT TELL YOU OTHERWISE as there plenty snakes out there

Me thinks Soodum protest too much. He forgets to add that Payne said barrier trials are only to show the stipes whether a horse is tractable or not. Not to give the public a tag on its ability although if any member of the public bothered to attend the barrier trials they would probably find out a little more. Do you think Payne is the only trainerin Oz to use barrier trials as a practice gallops?
The Oz stipes are merciless when it comes to the races proper so why not work the system?

Worrying about Oz barrier trails unfortunately aint gonna help us here. Rather find a winner here and get to the atm and load the cannon
