Good afternoon James and let me say well done!

I woke up this morning and you were keeping us updated, I watched all the races from Hong Kong, plus all the other rubbish in between, plus u interviewing the soccer expert that did not know the result of the game between Real and Barca ? Have been Xmas shopping, lunch etc put on Tellytrack and u are still on the go! Well I hope they are looking after u and a trip to the MET is planned?

Cheers

Dave

Yes, it's been quite a long haul, Dave. In studio till 11h30 last night and then back this morning at 07h15. And I have had to write scripts for inserts for tomorrow evening's "Inside Racing", with stuff still coming in from Cape Town tonight. Aidan had to find a passenger on a Jo'burg flight to bring up an interview with Bernard Kantor, which he filmed at Klawervlei this morning, so you can't say we don't go the extra mile. But, as you say, there's light at the end of the tunnel because come the end of January and the closure of the present season of "Inside Racing" I am going down to the Cape Premier Sales and to the Met, and probably taking a couple of weeks off to spend time down there with a newly arrived baby grandaughter, born on 1st December. It's nice that life is still so full after the accepted age of retirement and if things go according to plan we might even settle in the Cape. There's a nice little hotel up for sale which we have our eye on as a family.... watch this space!!

Thanks, Kaya. Glad I don't have to depend on my acting career to sustain me. It's a tough business in this country, though easier, funnily enough, to get parts as you get older - there seems to be a dearth of character actors over the age of 50. Yep, been in most of the local soaps, over the years, with my favourite having been "Isidingo", where I had a really juicy, villainous part as a German/Dutch tycoon who had a fetish for kinky sex with dusky maidens. Nobody wanted to play it, but it's just acting, after all.

The current part in "Rhythm City" isn't much of a part at all. A plot contrivance, so to speak. In four of my scenes I just had to accept wads of money from the "baddie" lady of the series, and I only wish the money had been real. Still, they've called me back for a scene in the New Year, so we'll see what happens.

It's lots of fun, though, and keeps the mind ticking over. But weariness has been creeping in these past few days, with all the stand-in work on TT, since Nico's operation, and producing duties on "Inside Racing". Yesterday I staggered out of bed at 5 a.m., made myself a cup of coffee to get the day going, and instead of putting in the sweetener I had in my one hand, I put in the pill used to clean my dentures, which was in my other hand. I leaped back when the coffee started fizzing and spluttering, and giving off a noxious odour. It did wake me up for the day, though. lol

Had to laugh at your tale of getting a 5am kick-start, chortle! If you ever give up acting you should switch to writing an occasional jokey column about the adventures and misadventures of an ageing racing man/presenter/small-part actor.
