Jhb horses seldom give there best when raiding the Cape, and vice versa.I doubt that Silver Flyer will end up being De Kocks best 3 yr old anyway.
In my book the class in the race is the Princess and thats where my nibble will be.
I also have to lay Divine Jet,and if he wins,so be it!
Only a couple of hours now and all the guessing will be over.....hope it is a clean race so there are no excuses for any.

wat a great win by joey ramsdens horse,VARIETY CLUB.Dont know if it will get further than a mile, but it should beat all comers in natal up to a mile.im sure kannemeyer runners will redeem there reputations and live to fight another day.as for the filly great run and she lost nothing in defeat.the future looks bright for these cape 3yr old stars.

I have certainly revised my opinion of Variety Club.If he had finished the same distance ahead of Gimmethegreenlight and Lancourt Rock as in the Selangor,he would have finished behind the 2nd and 3rd horse today, which was what I expected.
He obviously has the heart to up his game to beat whatever is thrown at him,and improved accordingly.Thats the sign of a champion.
On that basis it is hard to know how good he really is!

Silver Flyer lost nothing in defeat. He will be a huge runner in KZN features. Could be an early pick for the Daily News.

Variety Club stars for Ramsden and Marcus
BY MICHAEL CLOWER 3:48PM 17 DEC 2011
Report:South Africa, Saturday
Kenilworth: Cape Premier Yearling Sales Guineas (Grade 1) 1m, turf, 3yo
VARIETY CLUB (Joey Ramsden/Anton Marcus) ran out an emphatic winner of the Cape Guineas at Kenilworth
Marcus tracked pacemaking stable companion The Balladeer until driving the 7-2 chance clear over a furlong out to beat Mike de Kock's strong-finishing Silver Flyer by three and a quarter lengths.
Fillies Guineas winner Princess Victoria was a length away in third after seeming to be going better than anything a furlong and a half out.
Marcus said: "We wanted a hard-run mile to negate the speed of some of the others, and we got it. This is a hard-knocking horse and a tough grinder."
Ramsden, stepson of former Yorkshire trainer Lynda Ramsden, was winning this Classic for the first time and said: "Variety Club answered a lot ofquestions today and he could now go for the Investec Cape Derby here at the end of next month.
"On pedigree he shouldn't get the ten furlongs [the colt is a son of Clive Brittain's Prix de l'Abbaye winner Var] but the further he went today the better he was going."
De Kock will also step the second up in trip, saying: "This was his minimum but we split two good horses."
Glen Kotzen immediately ruled out a clash with themighty Igugu in next month's Paddock Stakes for Princess Victoria but said she could go for the Majorca Stakes over a mile on J & B Met day.
Divine Jet, the 28-10 favourite, made up a tremendous amount of ground in the straight but appeared not to stay, weakening in the final furlong to finish seventh.
Rider Karl Neisius said: "I had to drop him out from his bad draw - I couldn't take a chance and go round them. But he might not see out a mile - some of his brothers didn't, and he could be the same."
