Big Bucks

Hi guys I am aware many are not into jumps but watching Big Bucks win " again" and the commentator was different class along the lines " the young pretender has the champ under a hard ride, but the champ has come along side to eye ball yet another trying to take his crown and he just gives a nod and moves on by many many lengths to show he is still the long distance hurdles champ"

Great stuff IMO

Rob it's now been 14 from 14 on the trot and must have been on at least 10 times? And has been my best bet at the big C for the last few years and this year no different. Magic

Scotia - Although a lot of posters may not enjoy jump racing that may well be largely for the following reasons ;

Most of the jump racing shown is largely the 'lower grade' stuff. As is most of the flat racing ( eg Lingfield, Southwell, Wolverhampton etc., ). Tellytrack is fixated on churning as many events as possible for turnover purposes - hence they continually 'cut in to' jump races and deprive the viewers of seeing the contest develope and getting an opportunity to see the enormous skill and courage that makes this discipline fascinating and the PREFERRED FARE OF THE UK RACING PUBLIC.

One has to wonder how rugby or cricket fans would react to having the action reduced to a quarter screen whilst the other quarter is filled with scores and the remaining half devoted to players warming up for another match!

I also continually ask myself how the punters who have had bets on these events must feel when they are unceremoniously consigned to a corner of the TV or no picture at all. Particularly as it is now clear that it is they who are providing the crucial subsidy to support SA racing. Or so Phumelela's figures suggest.

The other issue which intrigues me is the local perception regarding the comparative ability of our 'homegrown' horses. Guys - with a very, very few exceptions our best horses are the equivalent of Grade 3 or Listed standard internationally - particularly in events beyond a mile. Yet surprisingly the prospect of seeing topclass international action - whether flat or jumps - often elicits muted response from the locals. Anyone who drones on about our worldclass horses as a generalisation usually has an agenda - to persuade you to buy one! To say nothing of the optimists who actually compared Igugu to Frankel during the last season. Eish.

And the part which really amazes me is the following : My experience of overseas racing is that they mostly bet to more 'friendly' percentages. Yet most posters talk largely about Pick 6's, swingers, quartets, all to comes etc., which are largely confiscatory mechanisms designed solely to benefit the operator and impoverish the punter. Quickly.

You having a laugh. The jumps this time of the year is of top quality but yes the flat on the all weather is 3rd rate because we are in the winter months.
