I cannot understand how people simply cannot seem to grasp the concept that there are LITERALLY lives at stake out there every time we send our horses to the start.
Putting a bunch of hyped-up, adrenalin-fuelled animals together and pushing them to the edge of their physiological and mental limits is an inherently risky business anyway - deliberately adding to that is playing with fire.
Look at the current Costa Concordia saga. In these days of corporate responsiblity, our administrators simply have to do better.
Whatever his feelings are about his job, sending jocks and horses out on an unsafe track is not only irresponsible, it's morally reprehensible. Had there been any accidents, that blood would have been on his hands.
I am sorry if that sounds dramatic, but I'm a horse owner and those are my babies out there and the people in that saddle are my friends. If you put them in danger, or cause them any harm, believe me I will come for you.
But my petty bunny-hugging leanings about ponies' and jockeys' safety aside, what about the blood, sweat, tears and cold hard cash of owners, trainers, work riders and grooms who have a vested interest in every individual out there. Nevermind the punters' rands as per bloody usual.
And we manage to pull a stunt like this smack in the middle of Met madness and the Premier Sale when we are on show to the world.

The question is he deliberately not doing his job so that they have to fire him and he can get better severance package or what. If he is doing that and someone or a horse gets hurt he could be considered liable. I cant believe someone with his vast experience can suddenly not be able to get the course right in the months since the spring treatment started.

The thing that is apparent is that,if management was obviously aware of the track managers position,he and his activities needed to be closely monitored and managed to avoid the situation that now transpired.........who's job was that .....that is where the buck stops!

Fire the whole damn lot of them..........even top management. They clearly don't know what's happening and even more obvious is that they don't even care a damn about anyone except themselves!
Like i said, i tired of all this nonsense.............close Clairwood down urgently and use the other racetracks!

PeeKay - closing down the track is not going to solve the problem.
Clairwood has been used as a racetrack for years - I very much doubt the turf suddenly developed a personal vendetta against the track manager.
Monty Roberts if fond of saying - It's not the equipment, it's the hands that hold it.

Zsus, but if the hands that are doing it at the moment are actually NOT doing it, then i see no other remedy..............other than firing the whole lot and employing others.............and trust me, that will happen when you see a pig flying past your window!

@Racing Guru ...since when will one's benefits be better if fired ??
If the guy is unhappy he should tender his resignation and leave. there is probably a helluva lot more to this than meets the eye. A discontented race manager, possibly because he is not given the tools to do his job due to GC' s unwillingness to spend money on an asset up for sale (closure...whatever) ... and said race manager going to be made redundant when that happens (ok, i would also not resign under those conditions would wait for the closure and take my retrenchment package) ... Lots and lots of little shades of gray if you ask me.. but massive implications for the operators. oh yeah, and once again a massive middle finger to the owners .

Never, always wait for them to pay you to leave, no one can force you to resign by threatening to fire you. The big wigs will be bolting back from Cape Town on Monday to make sure that he does not talk to anyone. When he does talk we will hear the same story, that goose grass, dry wind, a bit of rain, a water leak etc all combined in a very short time to cause this problem.
