Are boomakers licenses really worth the price they want?

they are cheaper than getting a license for a Mint and they allow you to do the same thing...

In the Eastoern Cape you can just apply to the ECGBB - licences cost R1000 a year. But you will
need to undergo a probity check, and other investigations, which will cost between R60,000 to
R100,000 to complete. They will also require a cash guarantee before you are allowed to start
operating, usually around R300,000.

A licence runs for 5 years, after which you need to re-apply as there is no renewal process.

I sold mine for 160k in 1992 - precisely the same price that I paid for it. Quite a lot of money on reflection. The individual who bought it from me sold it 6 months later for about 40k. Or so I am led to believe.

It wasn't profitable for me but it sure was a hell of a lot of fun. ( I had another business so only pitched for actual race meetings and stood up on the course ).

And interestingly it taught me how to be a better punter.
