Prices of placed horses nowadays
13 years 4 months ago
Not so long ago when we bet a Horse for a place, in a Race that paid three places, we could comfortably get a quarter of the Odds, the Bookies turned the screw a bit and we then got a fifth of the Odds, I have just checked the betting for Kenilworth tomorrow on Betting World and it appears to me that we NOW, have to accept one seventh of the Odds for a place, this ii ludicrous, when are we going to get some concessions from these Bookies, Commission Agents or whatever you want to call them.
Sadly however playing places on the Tote is sometimes even worse, I have never seen so many Horses paying R1-00 a place, as there has been the last year or so:S

I agree 100% Ships, with both ur comparisons.
Wrt the tote places, sometimes its crazy..
You get a horse paying R12,50 4 a win, yet R1.40 4 a place, and so many times this year, I have tking place ATC on about 5/6 favourites and 2 of em pay R1,00..
And the other 3 pay abt R1.3_R1,6..
Its sad, because most people who try punting start with places, and when they realise its not worth is, dt leave. Thus losing customers

these bookies are just inept at rules....i wanted to back a horse last week....win was about 4/1....so i expected about 7/10 ,first three...and there was 13 runners with no odds on in the race...i checked online...marshalls had 7/10...betting world had it 13/20
my bookie said to me 3/10 he will give me 1/3...i told him its gotta be wrong somewhere...he tells me thats what the computer says... every race has margins ...so he loaded the wrong margins...after scratchings he needed to adjust the number of runners and the %
......i eventually got 6/10....when i pointed it out to him...that he had made a mistake when he was setting the %'s......i always check...because some bookies have no idea how the system is designed...or if they know...their clerks are ignorant....

Ships G
a seventh of the odds is with 4 places paid , 3 places remains a 5th of the odds, so a multiple Agra to run in the 1st 3 with Jackson to run into the first 3 and Igugu to finish in the first 4 is 4/10 which looks a good way to earn 40% on your investment

Titch, check on all the Races, you will find the average is now circa 1/7th the odds for the 1st three, I was not talking about Igugus Race, just place sin general

Lets be honest on this one..with all the payout problems on the tote it has become a bookies market and at the end of the day it is supply and demand...however price collusion could be a problem.

I'd take even money any day on a 7-1 with the bookies than r1.20 on the tote
The tote sux in every way
