I think someone posted it somewhere - but times over 2000 incluenced by the pace - so not an indication of 'who is the best' - just my opinion

I think Jackson still has a lot of improvement to come. I have backed him in every one of his wins but i don't see the point of putting him against a champion who doesn't know how to lose. You never know what effect that has on a young horse(eg perhaps Run For It should have run in the Derby last year). Perhaps they will meet in the July with no excuses or problems. Looking forward to that. I would have loved to have seen Pocket Power and Dancers Daughter at their peak take on Igugu in the Met. Now that would have been a race.

Let's start off by elevating the Derby stake to an amount which a race of this stature deserves - R1 million at the very least. It's no credit to Investec that they continue to be associated without a meaningful increase to the stake in recent years. Makes them look cheap. This races spews out future champions year after year. I'm amazed anyone bothers to nominate for total prizemoney of only R600,000. That kind of money hardly even buys a luxury car!

Jacksons time was faster than Igugus.....pity he didn't accept for The Met...would have been an interesting result.
The sponsor wants the Derby on Met day and whilst they sponsor the race WC Racing can't argue.....pity

There was a time when you could look forward to 2 months of proper racing in CT, with a Gr1 race as an anchor tenant every Saturday.

It's just gluttonous to burn multiple Gr1's in one day. In my opinion, there is no reason why the day can't be populated with multiple Gr2 and Gr3's as supporting events, juveniles..sprinters..stayers..and other worthy events just off gr1.

The Cape Flying Championship was a great race the other day, not because it had a big field, but because great horses met. Gr1's on the same day make sure less and less great horses meet, and following weeks racecourses go back to being ghost towns.

The Cape programme could be given a considerable overhaul when Phum take over. Hopefully the minimum R1m stake for Gr 1 races will then be applied.

We all very positive going forward....can only get even better.....so far for 2012 we have had an unbelievable sprint race,a great CPYS ,a champ win the Met and David Raphael calling another race at Kenilworth, just like i said would happen.
