If he jumped it was because the horse was heading straight for the rail. I don't blame him at all for looking after his neck. The question is, was he still on board in a proper sense when the horse crossed the line? I would say yes, but if not the horse will be classified as finishing last.

What's a day in Durban without some chaos, even of the sort that isn't anyone's fault?

If he would have tugged the rein to the right he might have straightened up.
Watch the replay and see how loose the reins were,he didnt try to correct the drift.
I thought he was going to jump though the horese legs and come out the other side
and get back on,like in the western films..

He is a very inexperienced rider. I think panic followed by automatic self preservation set in. It's easy to be a grandstand jockey but we're not the ones looking at a bunch of pain for going over the fence.
